Nightingale College Fall 2020 Start
Hi all, I am in Utah/Idaho area and looking to attend in Brigham City, Utah for the BSN program. Long story made short, 2020 sucked for me as it did for many others I was going through an accelerated BSN program in Texas and I had to drop because of extenuating circumstances. I'm happy to see that all of my general education classes will transfer to Nightingale and I am waiting to hear back from the advisor if any of nursing courses will transfer as well. Can anyone tell me how many days of week you typically have to be on campus? Are the majority of courses online? What has your experience been thus far and do you feel amply taken care of as a student in regards to your educational needs? thanks!!

Texas Tech-Accelerated BSN Spring 2020
I wanted to hop on and post. First an apology for a long gone thread of stress and exhaustion. I chose to withdraw due to a multitude of reasons. I won't be re-applying to TTUHSC because my family is moving. Now for the 2021 applicants..... Each day is different in regards to daily schedule. However, Basic Skills/Bootcamp is scheduled to the minute. This is the time to get to know your classmates. Expect to be at your site daily or according to the schedule. After that you will meet for skills labs, exams and study group. I can not speak to how this will affect you with COVID social distancing etc. At orientation, take notes and ask questions, ASK ALL QUESTIONS! THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS FROM THE MOMENT YOU GET YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER. Just swallow pride or gain confidence and ASK. after basic skills your schedule will depend on you. Connect with someone of similar age or circumstance if you need help scheduling.

call an advisor perhaps. if that doesn't work try to contact someone from the austin cohort for 2020. I took a 1300 level pathophys with Alamo Community Colleges and it transferred but I spoke to advisors from both schools. last year my acceptance came in the form of me checking the application portal daily and one day I opened it and confetti gif was on the screen. I later received a traditional acceptance letter in the mail.

https://www.ttuhsc.edu/disability/documents/Referral_List_2020.pdf If you are in San Antonio and think you may have a need for academic testing. I highly recommend ---------------------. He did academic testing for my 9 year old when she was 7. She's an A student and I strive to be like her LOL.

I'm up early this morning and church is still closed for me. ....so I thought I would reach out for some quick updates. I know how stressful it was for me waiting to hear back. I know there's over 800 applicants and the faculty working on things is OVERLOADED to say the least. This is a wonderful program if you are smart enough. You MUST rely on others! Graduation is an individual project but getting there will be a team effort with your cohort. 2020 will probably be the class that lives in infamy it's been rough they keep saying we will be at graduation whatever form that takes. This program is by no means EASY or cheap. I have lost basically all my work income to take this program on so I'm DEAD SET on graduating in December. All of our papers say graduation is 12 December 2020 and that's the time I'm planning my road trip to see all the people I haven't been able to see this year, but have gotten me mentally through. IT'S BEEN ROUGH AND WE AREN'T ANYWHERE NEAR DONE! If you aren't a note taker or you don't have embedded study habits start working now. I have had to evolve ALL YEAR. If you suck at math consider starting with studying dosage and calculation in ANY FORM. You can not know to much Pharmacology. Orientation----take notes and save them! I assume students from each co-hort will come and talk but our experience won't be yours so focus on the faculty. Get to know your classmates just as you would co-workers. Nursing is a career field based in professionalism. A BSN nurse is expected to be a leader out the door of graduation so consider that when you sit in class and think something won't be applicable later. I have been working in healthcare in one for or another since I was 15.....I'm 31, I have 2 kids, I haven't been able to work all year(but I work on breaks for fun). My personal support system that I mentioned in my interview isn't even the same one I have this year (my dad died two weeks after I got my acceptance letter). I have literally had to start seeing a therapist to keep me strong because I have ADHD, PTSD, and multiple anxiety disorders. If you have absolutely ANY diagnosis of any sort. Get a letter from your doc and contact https://www.ttuhsc.edu/disability/default.aspx THIS PROGRAM IS EXPENSIVE GET 1-2 SETS OF THE COMFIEST AND MOST WRINKLE FREE SCRUBS YOU CAN FIND.(YOU'LL NEED RED TOP BLACK BOTTOM) TAKE ANYTHING FREE ANY PRIOR NURSING STUDENTS HAVE TO OFFER FROM ANYWHERE YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT MAY COME IN HANDY. Best of luck hopefully I'm not your classmate come January

If you are going to be at the duty station for 2 yrs I recommend you wait to apply until you've met your new leadership and can see if its workable. If your schedule is shift work it can probably happen but if you have to be at work particular hours(9-5/7-3) it may not be doable. If your leadership is willing to work with you then it can all be done easily. The exams, simulations and basic skills course are NOT FLEXIBLE. They are EXTREMELY veteran friendly but the circumstance are unique to each individual. When I called initially to inquire about the program I was told that I should plan not to work. I did and im glad because when I do have time to work I can but Due dates are solid and so is the instruction time its by no means self paced. I dont know if that clarifies?

I attached my resume only. In hindsight I wished I had written a cover letter to allow them to understand me a bit better. I guess they liked what they saw at the interview though.....I know when apply for residency programs im going to put a cover letter ?

The schedule is planned by the site coordinators. The first month or two there is alot of in person classes that are full day. After that you are required to work 12-24 hrs of clinical per week with a max of 30 hrs in a week(I've hear of people having special circumstances of 36 approved but it isn't a norm). My clinical site coordinator allows us to schedule our shift however we would like to match our coaches. I find this incredible helpful as I have kids so it makes childcare a bit easier as I can try to pick days that my husband can be with the kids or whatever. Exams are fairly regular there is an exam nearly every other week and in the busy portions of the semester sometimes every week or twice in a week. Additionally there are simulation and hands on check off days that will require you to be at the sim lab 3 days in a week. There's no real "set schedule" its basically ALOT of time management if you are working or have kids or both. BUT ITS DO-ABLE. It is important to remember this is an accelerated program it isn't intended to be easy but it will get you that BSN in 12 months! The professors are all absolutely amazing people that truly want to teach students to be great compassionate nurses. Each cohort location schedules things according to their site coordinator so the best thing to do is see if you can track down someone(probably on this thread) from that location and ask for a glance at their planner or calendars. I am at the San Antonio Location and we actually have quite a few students that moved down for school or commute from elsewhere(2 from houston). This program is truly NON TRADITIONAL, both in the education and experience.

If you're interested and meet requirements just apply. It's hard to say who gets in and who doesn't because its a whole person concept.

That's all I really did to prepare. I never eneded up asking my classmates what they were asked. I was asked alot of questions about my personal support system. Honestly it was kind of a blur of 30 minutes?♀️

How does the hiring process work? What's is residency?
I feel a bit silly posting this as I am coming upon completion of my first semester of my accelerated nursing program(ends in December) and I don't know how the hiring process works. To give some background I have worked as a surgical technician since I was 19(I'm 31) I've wanted to be a nurse since I was in HS there were a lot of obstacles and set backs getting to nursing school and many times I REALLY evaluated if I really wanted to be a nurse. At the end of my first semester in school having worked part time at my regular job(surg tech) and going to school and taking care of pts at clinicals I can say DEFINITIVELY I was born to be a nurse(meant without arrogance I promise LOL I actually have serious self esteem issues I'm overcoming) So my question. My work wants to hire me ASAP. I'm so thankful and I will ABSOLUTELY take the position. I can't think of a better team of nurses to work for, with and learn from. When I started school my manager got with me after Spring break and said to make sure I apply for the residency program! So I emailed HR and asked for information and they told me hold off til August, that's the residency program I need to apply to for my December graduation. How does this all work? What is pay when you start a residency program? Is it like internship and is unpaid or is it partial pay until NCLEX? How does this all work? My husband is in the military and he can't separate until I'm firmly set at work and get paid more than currently and able to provide breadwinner benefits and pay. He's given up so much happiness for me to be able to pursue schooling for my passion and I want to be able to tell him go ahead stop being miserable in the military and get a civiliam job and be home with the kids(which he's great at).

I think you may be asking someone else. However, I'm a current student and GPA was a BIG concern for me. All the knowledge I have in my head NEVER goes down on paper or exams well because I over think and make a mistake or choose the wrong answers because I over thought it. My GPA apply was 2.9 cumulative and 2.7 for science. I will say I have SIGNIFICANT work experience and on reflection I believe that was a big part of how I got in as well as I tested well on TEAS with advanced scores in most areas. Hope that helps! My GPA at the end of first semester looks like it will be 3.2 or higher. It's really am amazing school with amazing professors to help you learn.

Basically the biggest thing is about time management and scheduling and flexibility. The first 3 weeks you HAVE to be in your site location for classes/sim Monday-Friday after that there is a schedule of when and where you have to be and you schedule clinicals around that, and then the rest of the time is yours to schedule as you wish. I thought I wouldnt be able to work at ALL but I've actually (aside from bootcamp) been able to work 1- 3 days a week! Which has been an immense help because I didnt think I would be able to have an income!

This program is offered at multiple sites and you can apply for 1 site if you arent able to commute frequently(seriously a ton of commuting but it CAN be done). I'm at the san antonio site. If I recall correctly its offered in San Antonio, Lubbock, Abilene, Odessa, Austin, Dallas, and Amarillo. I have to say I know I'm only 2 months into the program but either I've got to some awful schools or TTUHSC is simply amazing. The professors are absolutely FANTASTIC, they treat us like family. I can not say enough nice things about them. I know there is nothing that can make an accelerated nursing program easy but at least they do their best to help us through and attempt to help us be comfortable. Additionally you can apply to 1 site and put a second choice if you have the ability to move or commute. We currently have 2 students commuting from houston to our san antonio location and they are making it happen!
