Texas Tech-Accelerated BSN Spring 2020

Published

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying May 1st to the January 2020 cohort. I'm wondering how heavily they weigh the TEAS. Also, I have heard as long as you meet all criteria they typically give you an interview. Has anyone else heard this? I really like how they take a holistic approach to grant admissions. I'm wanting to apply to UTA but I feel like the main way you get extra points is by attending school there which I did not do! We'll see!

Honestly, they did not care about our shoes as long as they were the correct color. You’re going to be on your feet a TON, so definitely buy something that is going to be supportive and comfortable! I’ve been wearing Saucony Ride ISO’s in black all year and nothing has been said!

Are yours all black? I am finding a hard time finding shoes that don't have white bottoms.

I just ordered a 4th pair of shoes. I've been ordering and returning shoes until I find the right fit. It is tough to find leather sneakers especially because my foot is small so I typically have to buy kids shoes which are lesser quality hence the needed to try them out. I'm hoping this pair is going to be the winner.

I ordered these on sale from Zappos today. They’re On brand, style of cloud flyer. a lot of the nurses here wear them. Pricy but my other pair of On is my favorite shoe and have held up great. I wear them for walking, cycling, hiking and some of my hospital shifts. Super comfy and this particular pair is actually waterproof (intended for trail running). Might be able to find them on a cyber Monday sale on amazon?

Hey All,

So I’ll be working full time while doing this program. Does anyone know the breaks during the program? I’m trying to plan ahead so I can also take off of work as well.

A nurse I work with suggested dansko shoes. They're not the prettiest and they're a little on the pricier side, but she said they are super comfy and help prevent back pain.

Danskos are great since they’re a firm sole but I stopped wearing mine because they got to be too heavy and honestly I was scared I was going to trip in them haha. Definitely depends on the person!

Oh good to know! They definitely look a little clunky.

I wish you well on your quest...not saying this to be a debbie downer at all BUT - I hope your work has extremely flexible hours only because our schedules can be really unpredictable. While it is true that they try to give us all our exam and conference dates ahead of schedule, it's hard to 100% plan around coach schedules/cancellations/reschedules, weather conflicts, rescheduling for conferences, conferences with your clinical site coordinator, visiting places for your specialty rotation courses...just something to keep in mind ? it can get super crazy.

Our semester start and end dates this year:

SPRING SEMESTER: 01/07-04/26

SPRING BREAK: 3/11-3/15

SUMMER: 05/13-8/16

FALL: 09/3-12/6

Mandatory ATI Live Review 8a-4p: 11/20-11/22

(Also, the schedule really starts winding down about the week of Thanksgiving! I was done with my clinical shifts so now I'm basically trying to coast to the finish line and submit all my assignments. )

So, you get pretty much 2 weeks in-between each semester; if you score your desired grade on the ATI exams and don't retake them at the end of each semester, this break turns into closer to 3 weeks off!

Hope this helps!

Where there are breaks between semesters are they true breaks? Or will we have clinicals, assignments due, and things to study?

They are truly breaks. Nothing is due unless you're a Dean's Ambassador, then we had assignments here and there that we had to get done with during the break. But you NEED that break, I took a vacation somewhere new during each one to relax and unwind!

Also, at orientation next week, y'all should get a sheet with all of the dates telling you when each class starts and ends, so that should help if you can hold out one more week!
