TWU Spring 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Spring of 2010? Just thought that I would start a group for all of us hopefuls so we could share information and have a way to communicate with each other.

Have you taken your HESI A2 yet? Have you taken all of your pre-reqs? If not, what do you have left to take?

I have taken all of my pre-reqs, and I just took my HESI yesterday. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I prepared for it for about 3 weeks.

If you haven't noticed, TWU has made some slight changes that I think some people will not be happy with. They are taking into consideration the first grade made at pre-req attempts for several of the classes like A&P, micro, and another class. What do you think of this? I wonder how it will change the applicants chances of getting in?

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

Okay, just a quick question!

When they calculate our pre-nursing GPA, in addition to the sciences/psych/stats, they include the grades from History I/II and Government I/II, right?

Yes, that is correct. That is why I am retaking govt and hist at the moment. (Boo.) I got a D in govt when I took it way back when. There are directions you can use to calculate your gpa on the twu site. Go here - https://www.twu.edu/nursing/bs_admission.asp

You can also make an appt. with an advisor, and they will calculate it for you from your unofficial transcripts while you're there and tell you if you are in good shape or not. That is what I did.

mkay, I was just wondering because I did the automatic degree audit, and those classes didn't show up in the nursing gpa...

Thanks!

hey!

I think the reason they calculate them into the pre-req GPA is because it is solely for selection purposes into the program, and not necessarily what is going to go our transcript. Kind of like the 0.4 bump...it's just for selection purposes and not for official transcript-if that makes sense.

This is the link to the GPA calculation excel documents that TWU put up for pre-nursing students.

Obviously, if you do not have a degree, you would use the "First Degree Student" excel document. You would use the "Second Degree Student" document if you do have a degree and if you were applying for the generic OR the accelerated. Do not use the "First Degree Student" excel document if you already have a degree...even if you're applying for the generic program. :nuke:

Hey I was wondering if you could give me some more information about the HESI A2, I am really nervous about taking it, I tried looking online for practices tests, but all I could find was the evolve reach powered by HESI book and I don't really feel that it is helping me much. Can you give me some advice about where to find some more practices and what else I can study? I see people doing really good on the math, english, chem sections, but not so great on the a&p sections. Could you help me out, I am planning on taking the test in a few weeks, but don't really feel to prepared or too confident.

I wanted to let everyone know that the Texas A&M Health Science Center in College Station, TX is hoping to start an accelerated nursing program for this coming spring (Spring 2010)! It would be a 15 month program (Ending in May 2011) and you would need a baccalaureate to be eligible. Here is the prereq list: http://nursing.tamhsc.edu/accelerate...table-new1.pdf. They will probably release the application sometime in Mid July and will be admitting 22 students. The program is growing by leaps and bounds (currently they have about 90 students but will be growing to over 100 in the next year) and is hiring new faculty every semester. The program will be moving into a new facility in Fall 2010 which will house a giant, top-of-the-line simulations center and classrooms.

The program they're wanting to start has to jump through a couple more administrative hoops, but they should be announcing it within the next week or so. If you call into their office the will NOT know much about the program. Just keep checking back at the website, or PM me if you have questions. :) Just a heads up for all our future nurses!

There really is a lot of information out there about the HESI A2 on this forum. All of the science sections, including the A&P, are general. As long as you know the basics and how the systems work, you will be fine. I'm afraid giving any more information wouldn't be fair since none of us really knew how it was going to be or what was on the test. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but just saying that giving anything else wouldn't be fair to myself and others. If you study the HESI A2 manual you will be fine, which is how a lot of us who have already taken the test studied. If you have old A&P notes, that is good to study too. As far as study tests online, there are none and I would know since I already looked, lol. Good luck on your exam!

well, if i may add my input. i didnt study for the hesi, and i was well above the 80% on all sections. its really general. basic questions, simple problems. there is ratios, and fractions, and decimals. reading is simple. short stories, then questions, not really long passages. grammar, easy, basic spelling. dont worry. ap, basic system type question. real plain. nothing to in depth

hey kimmy088!! Thanks for the headsup! but I am really looking to stay in the DFW area. I am sure that others are definately interested though. Are you going to apply there? I am sure you are since you sounded so excited about it lol! It seems like all of the schools who do not currently have an RN program are in the process of making one to catch up with the high demand for nurses and compete with schools who already do have nursing programs. When is UNT going to get with the program?!?!

I heard that Texas State in San Marcus is getting a program in 2011.

Hello-

I am new to the website and I am a 2nd bachelor pre-nursing student. I have chosen to go to TWU for my pre-reqs because they say they will give students a 0.40 jump on the pre-req GPA if you attend the Denton campus for pre-reqs. I would love to keep in touch with you goopsy and all others either currently taking pre-reqs for nursing school and currently attending TWU nursing school.

These threads are very informative and helpful. Would you all recommend taking Micro & Chem in the same semester? I've heard missed reviews on taking these classes together and I noticed under TWU suggested degree plan for 2nd bacc students it states to take them together in the 1st semester.

Thanks!

yah, I don't see any issues with that. I don't think it would be too hard.

good luck with ur pre-reqs! when do you start ur pre-reqs?
