Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Spring of 2010? Just thought that I would start a group for all of us hopefuls so we could share information and have a way to communicate with each other.

Have you taken your HESI A2 yet? Have you taken all of your pre-reqs? If not, what do you have left to take?

I have taken all of my pre-reqs, and I just took my HESI yesterday. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I prepared for it for about 3 weeks.

If you haven't noticed, TWU has made some slight changes that I think some people will not be happy with. They are taking into consideration the first grade made at pre-req attempts for several of the classes like A&P, micro, and another class. What do you think of this? I wonder how it will change the applicants chances of getting in?

when did you hear that they'll be releasing the nursing school apps?

I never really heard from anyone, but I know that last app cycle, it was due feb and it wasn't out till like jan 1st or 2nd. So Im assuming it will be august when they open it.

Hi Everyone, I was just reading over the posts and I wanted to ask you guys about the pre reqs for TWU. I am planning on applying to both TWU and UT Houston in 2011, but I'm a little confused on what TWU's pre reqs are. For the most part I think they're the same as UT, however do you guys know what math courses are required? I had planned on taking the Psyc Statistics course, but if you do that they require you to have like 6 extra hours of math courses if you're not core complete. Did you guys run into this? If not what courses did you take? Thanks so much! ;)

I think I heard that about the psyc stat somewhere, but someone else would probably know better. I'll be finishing a degree this fall so I'm probably not the best person to ask. That does sound very familiar though...I'm pretty sure it's true.

OK, I'm freaking out. I haven't been on this thread for a while because I've been studying my butt off for Microbiology (got an A) and now I have to study for the Hesi which I take on Friday (yes, that's two days away). I will take my last pre-req class (A&P II) in Denton starting next week and I'm so exhausted right now that the thought of studying for this Hesi test is killing me. I did well on the NET test, an 85. Would you ladies think that if I did well on the NET that I would do well on the Hesi without TOO much studying? I know I just need to get off my duff and do it, but I think I'm experiencing burnout. By the end of it all, I will have taken 14 hours just this summer. Help, give me any thoughts you might have.

BTW, here's a question for those that have taken the Hesi. In the study guide some of the practice test questions on the math portion are actually open ended questions, not multiple choice. On the Hesi that you took, was it all multiple choice or were there open ended questions?

Thanks for the reply about the stat class. I think I'm going to call the Houston office today and ask them specifically what is required. I can't seem to find a straight forward answer on their website. Thanks for the info though. :)

Hi there! Sorry, I have been really busy the last two days, so I just saw your post. You know, I really have no idea since I just took the regular stats class. I thought there were basic pre-reqs that everyone had to take with no subs, so I am not the best person to ask.

I thought they were:

"Anatomy and Physiology + Labs 8 hours, Chemistry + Lab 4 hours, Microbiology + Lab 4 hours, Growth and Development Across the Life Span 3 hours, Nutrition 3 hours, Statistics 3 hours) and be able to complete all 58 hours of the lower division course work specified in the degree plan before beginning nursing courses except for Multicultural Women's Studies (3 hours)

The College of Nursing faculty has defined a set of courses that must be taken by all students either to meet a state requirement or to have the foundation necessary for upper division nursing courses. The following courses meet the nursing core requirement and must be taken by all students, whether or not they have completed a core curriculum at another institution. Courses that have previously been successfully completed do not have to be repeated."

I just thought stats was a class you had to take. I would just take the stats anyways, and forgot about taking the extra 6 hrs.

Congrats on the A in Micro. :up:

I think you have the ability to do well on the HESI if you did well on the NET since both are standardized tests, but it's not necessarily guaranteed since the HESI is definately knowledge-based on what you know; the NET is really just reading and being able to answer in the alotted time and knowing basic algebra. I definately, at this point, wouldn't cram since that can add up tension for you. Just review, like you said you would and you will be OK.

Yes, there are questions like that on the test with no answer choices. You have to type in the answer. :up:
