Texas Employment

Published

I was just wondering, is it hard to get an RN job in Texas? I just recently passed my NCLEX-RN exam last Dec. 2014 and is still waiting for my RN license from Hawaii (original state I applied for). Do I really need to undergo TX Endorsement first before I'll be able to get a job and be hired? Or are there medical facilities who can give considerations in holding an out-of-state RN license. I heard Government hospitals would reconsider yet I'm still just a Greencard holder and not a US citizen. Any comments will be appreciated! 😊

Texas is a very competitive market for RN's right now. Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio are all turning out large numbers of new grads.

If your wanting to work in a hospital in a major metro area, you will want to show your serious about working in Texas, getting a Texas license will help greatly.

Having a BSN helps quite a bit as there are several of the larger hospital systems will only hire BSN new grads.

If you look into smaller areas (Waco, Lubbock, Amarillo, Victoria), in most of south Texas/along the Texas/Mexico border they are almost always hiring, new grads, ASN or BSN.

Where in Texas are you looking to move to?

Thanks for those info.

Hi! I am currently residing in San Antonio. I'm not a new grad though yet I only have 1 year RN experience (Aesthetic / Dermatology) in my home country and is a BSN graduate. I'll just be staying in TX till Dec. 2015 and will need to move again in another state since my husband is in the military. I am thinking that the TX endorsement will consume much of my time when I should be working and gaining an RN experience here in the US as my entry level.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

You'll undoubtedly need to have your Tx license before any employer in the San Antonio area will consider you. That area of the state actually has the most nursing schools per capita - so there are tons of new grads who are all competing for the same jobs.

Good luck.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

You cannot legally work as an RN in Texas without a TX RN license. The only exception is the VA health system, and the process of obtaining employment with them is lengthy and onerous.

Thank you! I'll take that into consideration! 😊👍

FYI - You don't need to be US Citizen or have a greencard to work in USA, EAD card is fine
