Texas CRNA Applicants 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello to all. I am applying to Texas CRNA schools to start in Summer/Fall of 2020 and wanted to start a thread for others who are also applying to be able to communicate and share questions, encouragements, stats etc. So far I have applied to TCU in Ft Worth and Ut Houston. I will be applying to Baylor College of Medicine as well as Texas Wesleyan when the applications open for those schools as well.

As far as stats. I've worked in ICU for 5 years, currently at a mixed ICU that includes Trauma, CVICU, Neuro, Surgery, and Medical ICU. Graduated back in 2014 with my BSN with a 3.6 GPA, CCRN certified, just completed PALS, and taking the GRE next month.

I look forward to chatting with others who are applying!

Has anyone who interviewed at Baylor heard back?

Nope! Still waiting

I got into BCM about 20 minutes ago! Also did my FaceTime interview today with TWU and was offered a spot immediately there as well. A good day!

Specializes in Neuro ICU, CCRN, SRNA.

Congrats!! Do you know which one you are gonna choose yet?

I got waitlisted for Baylor. They just sent the email out about 10 minutes ago. They told us they were potentially expanding the program to open up 10 more spots so I'm hoping that happens. I also got an email from LSU to set up an interview about an hour ago. Does anyone know what the window is to accept an offer from TWU, UT, or LSU. I really want to go to Baylor but I don't want to pass up another offer waiting to hear back if Baylor doesn't get approval for 10 more spots.

Specializes in Med Surg ICU.

Does anyone have any advice on deciding between the Texas Schools? TCU, Baylor, TWes, and UTH?

There's a lot to consider and it's very individual to you - but if it were me I would consider:

1. Clinical site placement - Where/how far are you willing to move? Will you have the opportunity to do a wide variety of cases or do you have to compete with other students? Does your clinical site rely on students to help staff the OR?

2. Overall vibe/feeling you got from the interview and tour - Did you feel welcome? What were the facilities like? Could you see yourself sitting in class there?

3. Total tuition cost - may not be a big difference between schools but something to consider!

4. First-time board passing rate

Among other things! Just the first few things that came to mind

Specializes in RN-BSN, CCRN.

For reasons of my own, I chose to look at schools in Texas based on prerequisites; though TexWes has a higher attrition rate, all Texas colleges have overall good pass and attrition rates. Both TexWes and TCU do not require OChem, however, TexWes requires chemistry (I am currently taking Chem2.) The two schools integrate Chemistry, OChem, and Biochem into the program, but the more Chem you have under your belt, the better prepped you will be for the course work. I have been accepted for an interview for both TCU and TexWes, and they both cost close to $100,000. Though I would love to have a tuition close to $50,000, I would rather get through grad school sooner and start making the $$ that will pay off those school loans. What works best for you and your family or lifestyle?

I have a family of 5 relying on my actions, therefore, I do not have the privilege to be quite as picky-choosy; however, if you have the grades, experience, certifications, time, determination, etc., more power to ya! Happy applying and blessings!

I went through the Baylor interview and was not offered a spot. I still have more interviews! Any advice on TWU?
