Texas CRNA Applicants 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello to all. I am applying to Texas CRNA schools to start in Summer/Fall of 2020 and wanted to start a thread for others who are also applying to be able to communicate and share questions, encouragements, stats etc. So far I have applied to TCU in Ft Worth and Ut Houston. I will be applying to Baylor College of Medicine as well as Texas Wesleyan when the applications open for those schools as well.

As far as stats. I've worked in ICU for 5 years, currently at a mixed ICU that includes Trauma, CVICU, Neuro, Surgery, and Medical ICU. Graduated back in 2014 with my BSN with a 3.6 GPA, CCRN certified, just completed PALS, and taking the GRE next month.

I look forward to chatting with others who are applying!

I applied before the priority deadline, though. I have an interview in January.

Oh sorry well I have no idea then

I was thinking maybe interviews are based on clinical site selection. Just a thought.

So........... long 3-4 step process....in short

1. Contact Army AMEDD Recruiter (Apply for USAGPAN)

2.Apply to Baylor directly (USAGPAN Nurse Anesthesia)

3. Take and knock out GRE/CCRN/OCHEM/ MEPS etc

4. wait for any of the above listed to ask for more paperwork/transcripts/documents/letters/etc etc

Hey Ants! Did you get in?

Specializes in ICU, CCRN.

For Tex Wes, did anyone’s app change prior to the interview, or not until after? Also, is it true some people are accepted during the interview? I have mine coming up in January. Any tips for the interview would be great!

has anyone who interviewed this week heard about acceptances? I've heard that some people have been accepted on the spot in the past.

Specializes in Cvicu, traveler.

Applying to Baylor via the VA nurse program. I as well am only applying to this school, mainly because as a VA nurse tuition is covered as long as I commit to work for the VA for three years. Won’t be a problem for me because I’m not planning on going anywhere.

Stats:

3.95 grad school GPA (obtained MSN in 2015)

3.75 undergrad gpa

297 GRE (yes I’m retaking)

4 years FT float between PACU/neuro ICU/and SICU (currently contingent and FT at the VA)

as stated I’m only applying here. If I’m accepted then me and my family will move from Ohio to Texas. If I’m not accepted then I take it as a sign from God that it wasn’t met to be.

How long did you have to work for the VA to get your tuition covered ? Is there a requirement?

Hi, I applied to UTH this year.

Does anyone have any insight into the interview process at UTH?

Are their questions clinically based, emotional, or a mix of both?

Also, for the students that started the program, do you guys have any feedback? I saw that the attrition rate for the 2018 class was almost 30%!

Do faculty help students succeed?

Thanks for any feedback! ?

I actually had my interview last year over zoom due to a tropical storm, and enjoyed it very much. They were extremely laid back and the interview was actually fun! They asked both clinical and personal questions. Their interview was one of my favorites! Good luck :)

Unsure about the attrition rate, but the faculty seemed extremely helpful and I felt comfortable asking any questions I needed to during the interview, so feel free to do so, also.
