Anyone applying for the May 2010 LPN program at Tennessee Technology Knoxville? I took the COMPASS exam this morning and passed with a 59 in math and 86 in reading. Not what I was hoping to get for the points system to get accepted. Does anyone know how many points are normally the cutoff for acceptance or either the number of points you have been accepted with? I just want this sooo bad!
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
krysty
My instructor said that so far none of the applicants have passed the COMPASS test here at the Jacksboro Tech Center. They should have told you whether you passed it or not. I'm pretty sure you need a 50, but I can't remember.
If you can take the Med Term course, it helps wonders!
Good Luck!

I spoke to TN Tech in Knoxville about 2 weeks ago and they said the normal cutoff has been 40 to 50. They told me the most you could expect in points on the compass was 20. They said two helpful areas that most will add to increase their points are becoming a cna through like the red cross and there is an online course in dimentia you can take through the tn board of regents web site, cost is about $200 to add points as well. 20 pts for compass plus 10 pts for cna plus 10 pts for dimentia would give you 40. also they give point credits for any math or anatomy and physiology courses taken in the past 5 years. Hope this helps.

If you really want to get extra points, take THEIR Cna class, the medical termonolgy class they offer AND the phlebotomy class they offer. And, get a job part time as a CNA because you will get even more points. If you get in, get ready to give your life to it. I studied day and night because they just pile it on so bad. Then, after you graduate, forget most of what they taught you because you get your training on the job. Good luck, hope you get in!

I am not sure if the Compass Test is any different across the state. I took the test at the Tech Center in Nashville for LPN and it was only Math & Reading. The minimum scores were 80% for Reading and 50% for Math. I am terrible at math and I made out with a 56% on the math portion. The website I went to has all kinds of different practice tests. Just look around and you can find Compass Practice tests for different subjects. I did the practice tests about 1 or 2x every other night for about 3 weeks until the actual test day.
Practicing answering the questions was a big help for me. Hope this helps you some!

Thanks for all the help! I'm pretty bad at math so I figured I wouldn't do well, but I thought I would do better than I did. I used http://www.testprepreview.com/compass_practice.htm to study for the compass which did seem to cover what was on the exam. I did study alot of grammer and sentence correction, but there wasn't any of that on the actual exam. However, it may be up to the school on what they include on the exam.
The school did tell me when I turned in my application that I can get more points from taking some of their classes, but I really am tired of prenursing classes I just want to get in already! lol. I guess if I don't get accepted this go around I will take another class.
Letters are mailed on the 16th of this month so I will be waiting and praying for acceptance.

I got my letter today for TN Tech in Knoxville and I got accepted. I was wondering if anyone else is starting the May 2010 class.
