Did a search, couldn't find if this was posted yet or night. Didn't look like it; I am suprised, quite shocking subject.

All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.

As the mother of two teenagers my ears perked up when I 1st heard this story. Awful to say the least. CNN reported that some of the girls even recruited a homeless man to be the "sperm donor". OMG.

I try to drill into my kids head there are 3 main choices that are 100% avoidable and 100% life changing.

1) sex- you dont have to do it, but if you do you can A) have a baby that is life changing and B) aquire a disease that is also life changing.

2) drinking and driving- you dont have to do it, and if you do it can ruin not only your life but those around you. Forever.

3) drugs, same as above.

I am sure there are way more than those 3, but those 3 wiegh pretty heavy on me right now being the mother of teenagers.

I am in no posisition to be called Grandma!!! eeegadds

I read this story in a magazine 2 wees ago while on vacation. I can't believe these kids are so stupid!!! I feel bad for the parents because you know they will be the ones supporting not ony their dumb teenage daughters but their babies as well.

I doubt that the parents will be the primary supporters of these teens and their children. The taxpayers will likely be forced into that role.

Ya as I am guessing the homeless man wont be paying much child support. Fast forward 15 years, think of these now teenagers who know what year they were born, and in what city and heard rumors about this pregnancy pact. As I am sure in that city, this story will be the talk for years to come. Can you imagine thier disgust in thier mothers when they read about thier conception??

We can only hope there is a strong adoption campaign going on in thier town right now.

First off, I think it is incredibly sad that these girls felt that "having a baby" would be the only way to be accepted and loved. Sick really.

Also sad that the school nurse could not have intervened and at least talked to the girl about what they were doing. Apparently the girls were bummed when they weren't pg but did high fives when they did get pregnant.

I think these girls need some professional help: having a baby will not solve their emotional issues.

This entire thing is disgusting, our society has glorified teen pregnancy, and then people get all hissy when crap like this happens? Yeah, I'm disgusted but not shocked.

Look at little miss "Jamie Lynn Spears" . . . .and then tell me teen girls don't look up to her . . right.

Complicated......this is the first article in a while where I am completely shocked:bugeyes::bugeyes:

Actually, there was no pregnancy pact. The principal lied. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=5227335&page=1

I've seen the mayor's denials on the news, and frankly, they ring hollow. I believe the principal, and think that the mayor is simply trying to preserve the image of the town, rather than discuss the disturbing issues raised by this situation: 1. Young girls with little self respect who glamorize pregnancy as a means to independence, love, etc. 2. Legalities that prevent the school nurse (who was aware of these girls' desire to become pregnant) from contacting the parents to discuss their daughters' sexual activity and well-being. 3. Young men fathering children that they will likely have little else to do with. 4. Precious new lives that are likely to repeat the cycle of teen pregnancy and limited education.

Lack of sex education is not the problem. These girls knew how to get pregnant, and how to prevent it. Lack of respect for themselves and society is the problem.

Jolie-

You so hit the nail on the head; which is why I also agree that the "poor parents" probably won't be the ones responsible for these babies. They weren't responsible the first time around if these kids thought this was a good idea. I doubt they'll step-up the second time around. :stone What a mess!

I can only hope that the children of these teenage mothers learn the difficulty of early pregnancy and choose a different route for their own lives. As the child of a teenage mom, I know I sure did. I endured the struggle of poverty that comes with a low wage earning, low educational background that teenage pregnancy brings. I thank God that my mother was strong enough to bring all of my siblings and me through those hard times together. Personally, I never wanted to struggle with the burden that teenage pregnancy brought my mom so I made better choices. I hope the children of these girls do the same.
