Hello everyone!!! Anyone attending TECO (KISSIMMEE, FL) LPN Program starting Jan 2011? I can't wait. Sooo excited. I hear it is a great school. Good luck to everyone starting LPN soon. :stdnrsrck:
ashcam,
just the math, reading comp, vocab and grammar.The vocab words from the study guide are the words on the test. But call teco and talk to Trina to be sure. The majority is multiple chioce, but there are fill in the blanks, if I'm not mistaken i think it was on some math problems. On the essay part, you get to choose from two topics. I can't remember both topics, the one i choose was, why do you want to be a nurse?. i think it was 200 words min. Keep up the good work. Good luck!!!!
I'm very interested in TECOs Jan LPN day classes. I'm pretty sure I'm too late to try to get into the night session next month. I ordered study guides for the entrance exams and I've been studying because I haven't been in a classroom in over five years! If anyone wants to study together for the tests I'm pretty much free all the time! Does the Jan class fill quickly? Should I be applying and taking the exams now? I don't want to miss out this go around! The only step I have completed is my letter of recommendation. Does anyone know a good daycare in the area near the school? My son will be one when the Jan classes start. I'm excited to take on a new chapter in life and any advice any of you have to offer is greatly appreciated!
Hey all!
I finished my testing and handed in all my documents/application for the January class last week. I would DEFINITELY recommend talking to Trina, the woman who handles all the paperwork instead of the people in the front office. I always get different answers from them, so now I just pop over to Trina's office instead.
As far as the Hesi, I got a 96% without buying any of the books. I just borrowed a friend's math book and went over fractions, decimals and percents, and looked up the vocabulary words online. I actually feel a little silly for memorizing all those medical terms when none of them appeared on the test...it was all pretty basic stuff. I'm glad I didn't follow the advice of one of the Teco people to buy a medical term dictionary!
Anyhow, good luck to all of you trying for the FT Teco 2012 LPN program! Hopefully we will all see each other in the very near future!
I took the TABE this morning and passed :-) it was fairly easy for me but I do need to do some studying on the math portions, it has been a while since I've covered this kind of material. I signed up to take the HESI on Tuesday. How much harder is the HESI than the TABE? The person that administered my TABE said that judging from my score I should score fine on the HESI but I don't want to take any chances, especially this late in the application process. I felt really comfortable on everything except the math. I am going to study math everyday from now until Tuesday. Are there any other subjects on the HESI that seemed harder than others? Does it cover science or medical terminology? Thanks for your help and hopefully I can join you all in the 2012 FT class! ***fingers crossed***
@EPPugh
The Hesi covered ratios, multiplying/dividing/addition/subtraction of decimals, fractions (proper and improper) and percents, ratios and then measurements, so you'll want to know how many ml equals an ounce, how many cups in a quart, etc. I felt like the math was actually far easier than the tabe! Really, I'd recommend double-triple checking your decimal placement during long division problems, and ignoring geometry/algebra because there is none on the test!
As for the terminology, I was told there would be medical, but they were actually more common use words that any well-read person would get. I used this to study http://quizlet.com/1841018/hesi-a2-vocab-flash-cards/, but there were no more than ten vocab words on the test, and it was easier than it seemed. I didn't get any of the harder words, only the very, very simple ones. Not sure if this is a trait in all the hesi entrance tests!
No science or anything else, it's primarily a reading comprehension and grammar test! Just be sure to know the difference between to/too, their/they're, further/farther because a surprising amount of those popped up!
At the end of the test, so long as you pass, they will give you half an hour to write an essay. I thought they would just be reading it and then grading it to ensure a certain level of aptitude, but it actually goes into your file and is a part of the selection process, so take it seriously!
Good luck!

Sundreams: I bought the Hesi exam guide. Were there Chemistry, Physics and A&P sections on the test or just the Math, Reading comp, Vocab and Grammar? Were the vocab words similar to the medical terminology words that are in the study guide? Was the entire test multiple choice? What was the essay at the end of the test about?
