Teas Test

Published

hi

i am taking the teas test feb.25, 2008 at ivy tech.

does anyone have any advice for me?

~thanks~

i was wondering if someone could tell me if they had a lot of percent word problems on there test? like an item as marked 20% off yada, yada.

thanks a bunch

I had quite a few percent problems which I was happy about because I studied a lot of percent problems. I had a lot of percent, fractions, ratios and geometry questions. Lots of adding and subtracting large amounts of numbers too.

Hey Nervousnursey2B

I went on that test preview site also and they also give you a book to order from http://www.mo-media.com/teas/ its really not all that. ITs not an actually book but like a pamplet that you can easily copy at kinkos or something. The only reason why i choose this over ATI's is a little cheaper and they offer you a guarantee like if you dont get the score you want they will reimburse you. I didnt know i was going to just get a 200 page pamplet thing. On the upside its pretty neat it really goes over alot of the science and chemistry part as i hear ATI does not. Also the math and english part they give you all the equations and commonly mis-spelled words on the test. SO in that aspect a neat think to have but i wanted a book really. Your not suppose to do this but i can scan a couple of pages out of it and send it to you i was thinking of giving it to the nursing school lol as its sooooo easy to just copy the whole thing lol and have someone else use it. Well i hope this helps ty

catherineb,

thanks so much for your reply. i have bought the ati manual and your right there really isn't a lot of chemistry and science. i'm taking my teas monday afternoon!!! sooo nervous!! i've been studying, but i'm afraid i'll forget it under pressure. have you taken your test yet?

Nervous Nursey2b,

I am retaking the TEAS in March after performing poorly in the science portion. While I do have the ATI manual, it didn't help much for the science portion on my test. I have purchased another study guide by Kaplan. It's called Nursing School Entrance Exams, 2nd Edition. This guide has an extensive science review, and a great chemical/physical science section, which was what my test had a ton of questions on. I would highly suggest purchasing this manual and looking over those sections. You should be able to find it at Border's for $20.

pnkrocdevil,

if you mind my asking, were there q's over certain elements in the periodic table? thanks:rolleyes:

I don't remember any specific questions like what is the atomic number of carbon. They would give you the info about the atom but maybe have some diagrams of molecules asking which one is possibe. For example carbon has 4 valence electrons, which molecule is possible?

i took the teas test this morning for the first time...i failed the math portion so i have to retake it. my advice to anyone would be to get the study manual and if you are not strong in math(like me) brush up on it! i didnt get the study manual but a friend of mine did and she did way better on the math portion than i did. the reading and english portion was a breeze for me.

i attend ivy tech in muncie and they require you to pass each section with certain percentages. (reading 80% math 60% science 60% english 70%) so even if you fail by 2 percentages (58% in math) and pass everything else you wont even be considered for the program. its an extremely competitive program.

personally, i hated this test. i hate standardized tests in general. i felt that the test did not concentrate enough on anatomy...i only had 3 anatomy questions. kind of crazy that you are applying for nursing and only have a few anatomy questions!! best of luck to everyone who is going to take it...don't take my word for it and get discouraged! i'm sure everyone will do just fine!!:wink2:

I just freaked everyone in my house out. I got my TEAS results just now and I almost got my ideal score (which was 95.0%), but I got a 94.7%!!! Going over the sections, I did the worst on a section I got 100% originally (with the practice exam) and then did the best on sections where I did the worst with the practice exam. I really wanted 95 because it would have given me one more point closer to acceptance, but I could cry even now. I have been putting this test off since last summer, thinking I wouldn't be intelligent enough to get a high enough score; my GPA brings my pts score down because I got a C in my first A&P course, but then I turned it around by getting an A in the second half. I guess I felt like it would be an impossibl goal to reach (getting that high of a score). Even if I dont get accepted in Sac state, I am so freaking proud of myself for getting this score. I know a lot of "smart people" would think thats silly, but this makes me smile.

That is awesome! Good work and congratulations. That should put you in the 99th percentile ranking for nation and program, which I believe awards you maximum points for the TEAS portion. I think CSUS has a place on their website where you can see the whole breakdown of what the various point awards were for past years acceptance.

Its not silly - you deserve to be pleased with your results! You can't do much better than that even if you would have gotten 100% I am pretty sure you got the top points. :yeah:

hello.. i am also taking the teas test on the 18th of this month.

i do have the study manual and i've taken the test once but got a low score. i'm not good at science. but the reading, graphs, and grammar are pretty much the study manual.

m thinking if i shoukd get the online practice too.

do you guys think it would help or it's just the same as the manual?

thanks
