i am taking the teas test feb.25, 2008 at ivy tech.

does anyone have any advice for me?

i do have the study manual and i've taken the test once but got a low score. i'm not good at science. but the reading, graphs, and grammar are pretty much the study manual.

m thinking if i shoukd get the online practice too.

do you guys think it would help or it's just the same as the manual?

I think if you have already taken the actual test and have the study guide, you probably don't need the online practice, unless you have money to burn. I think the online test is just more of the same and since they give you the exactly same test twice and only provide 100 questions, it might be a waste. I think it is more useful for those who haven't taken the test and are curious about what to expect. It seemed very similar to the guide, which was also similar to the actual exam.

Now that you have the real test behind you, you know the areas that you need to work on. Your time might be better spent just reviewing and practicing.

I just got home from taking the TEAS, and I didn't think it was too bad. Someone I know freaked me out by saying it was super hard, but I thought it was kind of basic.

I took the practice diagnostic tests at http://www.testprepreview.com, and decided to just brush up on my science. I used the Kaplan review and looked over the chemistry and physics, which was good because I had a bunch of questions on the periodic table of elements, how many electrons/protons in certain things, etc. The science was definitely hardest for me. If you are worried about a particular subject, shell out the $30 for a review book and study for a few weeks first.

Overall, my percentile rank was 97 - I was pretty happy with that.

That is awesome! Good work and congratulations. That should put you in the 99th percentile ranking for nation and program, which I believe awards you maximum points for the TEAS portion. I think CSUS has a place on their website where you can see the whole breakdown of what the various point awards were for past years acceptance.

You know, I think you are right, Vixnnet, I think CSUS goes by actual score, CSU East Bay goes by percentile ranking. I like the way CSUS provides a breakdown on what each aspect of the scoring is worth. I tried to get a straight answer out of CSUEB about what things are weighted but all they would tell me is the maximum point awards possible. They wouldn't tell me how those points are determined, only that a 4.0 GPA was worth 50 points and a perfect TEAS was worth 40 points, but not how they score a prospect if they are less than perfect. She said that they tell you AFTER they make a determination. I was also told that they look at the 9 prereqs GPA plus the overall GPA of the last 60 units - but not how either is weighted. Why be so top secret? I always get suspicious when authorities tell me to never mind!

Thanks, Hotflashn! I only registered for the exam a week ago, which contributed to me being nervous. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

That is really good. My advisor told me the highest she has seen come through the program at my school was a 93 and most are in the mid-high 80's

I'm sorry that person freaked you out before hand. However, I am one of those that freaked out and thought the science was really hard. I think whether or not one feels it was hard has a lot to do with where your strengths are. For example , I have a friend who always was a few points behind me on our tests in all of our classes. When we would talk about the questions later, I could see that I was much better at "guessing" the answer than her. It didn't mean I was smarter it just meant I guessed better. I have been out of high school for over 20 years and it has been longer than that since I have had a science other than ANP so for me I struggled with the Science portion. The English & Reading were no problem at all. The Math was not that bad. I actually got 100% of the algebraic application problems right. I was shocked on that.

But anyway...my point is what is easy for some is hard for others and vice versa. I am a good student in college. I have straight A's on my prereqs and currently pulling an A in ANP 2. I do think the Science portion was hard but that is me. For someone else it may not be.

I am retaking the TEAS on the 18 and I have been studying all the parts I did poorly on hoping to increase my score.

I just did a search for help on TEAs and this archive popped up. I just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful advice. I love this nursing forum..it's awesome! Congratulations Bree on your score. And thanks for the testprepreview website. It's definitely helpful. I take my TEAs at the end of this month. eeek! Thanks everyone for the helpful adivce.

hey, I am taking the teas exam on tuesday and i'm so freaking out. Do any of you remember anything from it? how is the science and math portion of the exam and did any of you take the ati online test prep? did it help more then the study guide. thanks for all your help

hi, i was wondering if you retake the TEAS test will it be the same exact test as the first time, or will it be harder??? thanks in advance guys.

I asked two girls in my ANP who had retaken the TEAS. One took it 3 times, same test she said each time. The other girl took it twice and said they were pretty similar and had a lot of the same questions. The second girl didn't pass the first time and raised her score to an 82. I know she really studied hard on the math part that tripped her up the first time. The first girl scored an 89 the first time she took it and on the retakes did not improve her score.
