Teas Test

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hi

i am taking the teas test feb.25, 2008 at ivy tech.

does anyone have any advice for me?

~thanks~

Hello,

I don't remember any antonyms on my exam. I do remember some spelling. There was some common misspelled words like accommodate. I guess every test is a little different. Good luck

Hi. I just took the teas test last week. I did excellent on everything except the math. Brush up on basic science (it's not hard) and the english and reading is very basic, i didn't study for that and got a 90 & 85. You should brush up on the math though. There are some algebra equations on there, and some metric conversions. Please take this advice though, if you find out you're running out of time (as I did) on the math, just flip through the pages and guess!! I ran out of time and only completed half of the math and missed entrance to the nursing program by 9% (all because of the math). Now I have to wait a whole year to take the TEAS again-you can only take it once a year, which is a real bummer. Another year to wait to apply to the nursing program, so please take my advice. Again, the test is very basic-just concentrate on the math and your time! Good luck.

Also, there are some antonyms and spelling but real basic, common knowledge.

hi, i was wondering if those of you who took the online practice test (provided by ati) found it easier or harder than the actual test. were the questions similiar at all?

:whe!:

thanks missbluey for your advice on the teas!

I just took the TEAS today, and my version was harder than the online test I purchased from ATI. The science portion was difficult for me because I haven't taken physics or chemistry yet. My score ended up being decent, 89.4, just because I did really well in the other sections. My advice would be for you to study physical science and chemical science. The scientific reasoning was easy, and there were only 2 A&P questions. The ATI study manual didn't really cover much of the science that I had. Good Luck!

i did better on the real test than the practice test. though, i took the first practice before i had even cracked the guide and i did it as fast i could. i was worried about the time and my math. i did the 100 questions in about an hour, and made some sloppy mistakes i would not have had i taken my time. i wanted to test the time pressure i imagined i would be under. i thought it was very similar to the actual test and to the guide. a couple of weeks later after using the guide, i took the 2nd practice - a week before the real thing. i did better, but also took more time, though i had taken the exact practice test once before, so would expect to do better. i would say if you have the money and can swing it, it might make you feel better. i think people score about 10% better on the real thing than the online practice. it might help you pinpoint weak areas.

how much longer do you have? lol, i will be as eager for your results as i was for mine! i feel as vested in your success as i was my own! having come out the other side, i would say pick the areas that you have a chance to really improve on and work on those. i think it is really hard to do much about the science, but you can probably speed up and improve your math. it was science that got me, but i could not have done a darn thing about it. i could not have studied for what i missed.

i have not taken any physics or chemistry yet either! well, i took chemistry in high school 14 years ago!!! i've just taken the 4 course's required to enter the nursing program. psych, eng.111, a&p i and a&p ii. i'm mainly freaking over the math section, but now i'm worried about science! can you please give me some kind of idea about what to study outside of the study manual? i have to take my test feb.25th! thanks for the advice you guys gave me on the practice test. it sounds like a great investment, well worth the money.

;)

I did a "TEAS" search on the allnurses.com site (at the top of the page) and read every back post that had anything to do with the test. I took note of anything anyone ever said was on their test then I made sure I knew it best I could. That said, very little, if any of the earth science or life science that others had mentioned was on my version of the test! Though, I feel I now have a rudimentary understanding of volcanoes, plate tectonics, earthquakes, rocks and the parts of plants. So, I guess you just never know what is going to be on your test. It would probably be good to do a quick review of those things, since others have mentioned it. It might be on yours. There is just so much to know for all the types of sciences that it is impossible to really prepare for it, IMO. I spent time reviewing the parts of cells, anatomy, cranial nerves, etc, and that proved to be a waste of time, too.

The good news about the science is that the majority of questions are common sense and there aren't that many questions total. Just whittle down the choices and make your best guess.

It seems like I had lots of spelling on mine. You will definitely want to be very efficient in your preparation because it is necessary in order to accommodate for the spelling portion. It is good to go through the spelling words in the guide, and review the spelling rules, and expecailly the exceptions to the rules - like "i before e except after c, unless there is a soft c sound." Test makers love to throw in exceptions to rules.

You HAVE to let me know how you do. I am rooting for ya! I wish I would have done as well on my organic chemistry quiz today as I did on the teas.:o I totally bombed today.

there were some hard to understand questions on mine. one asked knowing that carbon has 4 valence electrons which structure is possible and then gave 4 molecule representations. not sure if i got it right or wrong. there were a bunch of hard to read graphs, none like the ones in the study manual. my version didn't have anything about rocks, clouds, water cycles or any of those basics. know on the periodic table what is atomic mass and atomic number. i don't remember anything about bonds. mostly physics, scientific reasoning, and hard to read graphs. there was also a question about being in space and having 3 boxes and knowing how to choose the one with lead in it vs. the 2 empty ones without opening them. i'm no dummy in science and was expecting that to be my best score, instead it was my lowest score...by 30 points. math is easy it's definitely easier than what's in the guide. make sure you know ratio, proportion, percentage, how to figure out densities, and tons of english/metric conversions. good luck

wow, i'm just going to pray that i don't get the test you got, yuk!! :omy:

you poor thing. i hope you get into your program though. i'm at ivy tech in richmond. they're accepting 40 applicants for rn-traditional track, 50 apps. are being accepted for the lpn program, and 30 -lpn to rn-transitional track are being accepted this year. i'm trying for lpn program starting in august.

thank you so much for the advice!

I think I got the same test! Ugggh!!

I had the exact same questions that you mentioned. I don't have my results back yet. But, I don't feel confident about the science at all. I never took chemistry or physics and I have been out of school 20+ years.

The rest of it I thought was pretty easy. Of course, I say that not knowing my results. I may change mind later.

NN2B you asked about analogies. My test had none, and there were no antomyms. but there were synonyms.

Yeah, the science portion in that version was horrible. I scored very well in all the other sections, English and Reading 97 and 98, and Math 90, then Science 66. I still had a decent composite score (89) but am considering retaking it. The other 3 sections were pretty easy on that version though. I'm sorry to hear you had to suffer through that test as well. What about the question with the crazy line graph asking about 2 liquids being mixed in 100 ml of water and the temp being brought down to 20 and asking which one was the precipitate. I couldn't even understand that flipping graph. Oh well hopefully I'll get a different version next time. Good luck on your score!
