Science questions.. Whew

Everytime I read this thread I get freaked out... I am taking it in 2 weeks, and I bought the ati book, because I didn't know what else to buy. I hope it helps me with the actual test.but from what you all are saying, its not going to help that much. I. Did a practice test this week and found a lpt of the questions really dumb, (like duh), and some were horrible. So far I cannot figure out what the hell the difference is between a "simple ssentence" and a regular sentence! And I was an English major!!

SarahB, I'm feelin' your pain!

I'm taking the TEAS this Saturday and these posts aren't making me feel better. I would like to think of myself as an above average student, but it seems like the average test scores based on this thread are in the mid-80s. Here in Cali that's not gonna cut it. To make up for the 1 B I have I need a 95% on this test to stay competitive. Has anyone out there gotten a 95% or higher? What did you study? I'm currently studying the ATI and the McGraw Hill guides, they seem pretty comprehensive....

PS... I dont understand that simple sentence crap either, lol

Ha! Alex, thanks for commisserating with me! Do u think its worth it for me to buy a McGraw Hill guide? Or just use the ati one? Or maybe ill go to Barnes & Noble to study it without buying, hee hee...

from everyone i've talked to so far the mcgraw book is a must for the science portion of the test. it covers the physical science subjects you're gonna need to know, that ati didn't cover too well. what's good about the mcgraw also, is that it's alot of helpful info with a limited amount of reading. it makes studying super fast. but at the same time it stays inline with what ati says is gonna be on the test, unlike some of the free test websites that are making you learn pointless stuff. you don't have to buy it or camp out at b&n all day :) here's the link:

when are you taking the test? let me know how it goes!

i'm taking it on sept. 24th! i'm psyched to get it over with because i am in the midst of a&p ii, and would like to devote all my study time to that, instead...

thank you so much for that link- the first time i tried that link, it didn't work for me. but now i've got it! :yeah:

yeah, i also noticed that there was not much in the way of the earth science stuff in the ati book, and people keep saying you need to know about the rock cycles, etc...but i see none of that in the ati guide. thanks a million!! i will be back to keep you updated! good luck on yours, too! :D

p.s. you know what the kicker is to all of this? i am taking this test for my second choice school. i don't even want to go there, but i've got to do this to have a back-up plan. argh.

I have taken the TEAS test. I don't remember what my overall score was but I can log into their system if I remember my password info to see the exact numbers. I studied three weeks for the exam and did VERY well on it. Read this and read it well. The ATI book sucks at the science portion. At least for me it did because alot of the science I did in high school. The McGraw Hill will prepare you. Make certain to pay close attention as there are maybe 1 or 2 questions from the McGraw Hill science portion on the ATI test. I don't see how no one caught that. Moreover, there was not many questions for anatomy and physiology, but they were still there. I don't understand how there were only like 30 questions on the science portion. I know I scored over 90% in both the reading and enlgish which isn't hard at all. The math isn't bad either just know the basics, conversions, ratios, units, etc. I think I got close to an 85% on the math and over an 80 something % on the science. Good luck and wish you the very best.

was the Mcgraw book good for the other sections as well? I have it and have been studing that for 3 weeks I have to get the ati one. not sure which version though.

Definitely! It's everything from the ATI book, plus the other info that previous TEAS takers say you should know. Plus, it seems to me, the info is much more concise, and presented in a way that's easily understandable. If you have a bookstore near you go check out the ATI book, but I honestly think you could easily get by with just the McGraw Hill.

And bmlex010, I recall someone else mentioning that there were questions straight out of the MCGraw book too! I'm just curious about the Geology Q's. There's nothingabout that in the McGraw or the ATI, but others have said that its definitely on the test. Any advice? Maybe just Google Geo 101?

Thank you Alex the great. I am retaking this exam I thought it was like the hesi exam so I used that book yeah as you can see that didn't work out so well for me. thank you again

That's what I was going to do!! :D

Just finished taking the TEAS! We didn't get the computer option so I have to wait a week for my results:( I feel like I did pretty good. A few points: The reading was a piece of cake. The science portion, was not what I was expecting, but I googled al the questions I wasnt sure about when I got home, and it turns out I'm a great guesser, lol. There were quite a few earth science problems, which I wasnt prepared for. THe math was easy but time consuming. I finished on time, but to do it you have to do as much estimating and answer elimination as you can. My friend took it with me, and she ran out of time with 10 problems left. She started tearing up in there, poor girl:( It's hard to tell how I did on the English section. I know I missed 2 for sure, both spelling problems.

Another thing to remember is that you have to answer 170 questions, but 20 of them dont count. The thing is you don't know which 20. So that could totally impact your score either way. I also found some mistakes in the test and asked the proctor, and he told me those are some of the questions that dont count. I think that sounds pretty shady myself. Does anyone know if you can ask to review or dispute a TEAS score? i think you should be able to when there are obvious errors.....

@ Alex, 20 questions don't count. Hmmmmm that's interesting something I was unaware of. Ms. Scorpio, the Hesi book is fine in my opinion for the math, reading, and english portions. Those sections are a piece of cake, really. However, get the ATI book because everyone is different. Also, there are two different ATI books out there I really don't know if they both have the same info, but I'm sure it does or similar. Ms. Scorpio, I didn't even attempt to look at the other sections of the McGraw book because I really needed to brush up on the science portion I didn't remember from high school. As far as the geology goes, I really don't remember about that but everything that I needed to know from the science portion I studied in the McGraw book. If others used the ATI book for the science and it helped them, I would love to know how because it wasn't even close in my opinion.
