TEAS Preparation - has anyone taken this before?

I feel for you! I took the TEAS today...let me tell you, I was a nervous wreck...Get the study guide, do the online practice test, study a lot of percentages, ratio, simple fractions, know how many mL are in 1.8L, know how to read charts/graphs, there isn't a lot of anatomy or physio., it was mostly the science you learned in 8th grade, I thought the english and reading were very easy, but had a heart attack with the math and science. It's a lot of critical thinking. Take your time, the math does fly by, but use all of your time.

I usually get so nervous that I don't eat, so I planned ahead and bought easy to eat food, yogurt, applesauce, and if worst came to worst I bought drinkable yogurt!

Thanks torey that is a lot of relief to know that A&P is not on the TEAS exam. I definitely can't study A&P without seeing the actual parts in person, which is creepy but I'm a more visual and text person. I have to put picture with the text to remember anything. I'm good in Math, pass my Calculus II with an A so I'm not too nervous about that. I guess I'll get the study manual and study off from there. Thanks a bunch for your help, and I will definitely continue to study until the day of the test. Hopefully I will get in, been waiting to get into some career path for almost 8 years now, not to mention I'm turning 27 in a few weeks. So time is going by and I really want to establish something for my family financial freedom. We're struggling as is to survive from paycheck to paycheck. Will update on how I do.

So what school are you going to? Cuz not many people know about the TEAS.

I'm scheduled to take the TEAS (www.atitesting.com) on the 9th of December and I'm a nervous racket. Seems like everytime i study, I forget the information the next day. How do you retain these information? I know they say "if you don't use it, you lose it". I'm currently carrying a 14 credit load and working full time with a two year baby girl. I've manage to keep my grades at a B average on all of my science courses. For some reason I can't remember the details of A&P. Do we need to know these for the TEAS?
:idea:Has anyone taken the TEAS before? Can you please help me with which subject I really have to focus on in the Science section. Fortunately A&PI is not a required pre-req for Middlesex County College but instead it's a co-req. So my worry is since I haven't taken the A&PI yet, will these subject be a part of the exam too? :uhoh21: I'm so nervous, please help!!

I am going to be taking the TEAS a week from today 11/17. I have been accepted into the nursing program on the basis of passing this test. The good news is you won't need to know much anatamoy for the test, the bad news is there, are all kinds of sciences that we really do not need for nursing. I took my first of 2 online assessments the other day I hadn't looked at the science section yet because science is my strong area. Well I got a 47% on the science part, it was really hard not much of anything that I have ever studied. Needless to say I am focusing on that part of the study guide now!

Hey Catzy5, I got the TEAS manual and have study it from front to back over the weekend. It sure is not too complicated. I'm planning on reviewing them over and over again until I can get the concept of the whole thing down. I have taken A&P when I was in high school which was like 8 or 9 years ago, so I do need a refresher. Biology is pretty simple to me, so I think I'm good with th Science section. Well good luck on your exam on the 17th. But a quick question, why are you taking this exam if you're already accepted into the program? What school are you going to, I would love to start this spring also that would be great instead of waiting a whole year.

did you purchase the online assesment? I did you get 2 I have taken one already and got a 68% testing is not my strongest area, I hadn't studied the science thinking I am so strong in science I will do that last hahahaha. Boy that section got me good.

I have studied the whole manual taken every test and still have one more online assesment I will do before Saturday.

My school has you take the test only after you are accepted. You need a 67.9% to pass. If you don't pass the first time you will get a 4 week review and then you get to take it again, if you miss it the 2nd time your spot is given away. It kind of takes the wind out of your acceptance letter knowing you still have to get through all of this, and a bit stupid since most of this stuff is not what you learned for you pre-requisites, but I guess it's just par for the course of nursing school, builds fortitude.

Wow you are so lucky, at least you have the opportunity to retake the exam. We're kind of having to pass this exam in order to get into the program. So I guess I should worry more. I haven't really purchase the online assessment test yet. Planning on doing so this weekend. So at least after I get my score I know which area is my weakest and focus on that before the exam date.

Very little A&P in fact I think there was one question about Sympathetic vs. Parasympathetic. The science was strange because I think it was a lot of biology but not so much chemistry, physics etc. I think I was asked about what the atomic number stood for on one element. The hardest part of the TEAS was the math and it wasn't so much that it was advanced. It wasn't, it is basic Algebra. Ratios, multiplication, some conversion so know your metric. mili, centi etc. Also I remember there was 1 question asking how many cups/ pints/ quarts/ half gallons etc. Just know that conversion factor. Now here is the main thing you need to know about the math section. You don't have a lot of time. So if you can back solve or narrow down the answer without doing the full calculation then do it. Spend only 2 to 3 minutes tops on each problem. If you can't figure it out move on, and if you have left blanks. Take a guess at the end. You can maybe narrow down the answer to two and make an intelligent guess. You don't have time to check and recheck your answer. Lets say that you see that the answers all end with different numbers and you have to multiply a large number and you multiply and know the answer ends with one of the numbers. You don't need to finish multiplying as you know that there is only one answer that ends with the same number. Select it and move on. I hope this helps you.

I was going advise you, make sure you know what your particular school is looking for as far as percentages...my school goes by the "program percentile"...in other words to get in "60th percentile" I had to get nearly 100% on the reading section, the other sections weren't quite so bad...know ahead of time what you need to strive for... :uhoh3: the first time I took it I didn't know how it worked and I didn't do so well...

My school really did not say anything about our passing score to get in. We're still among the pool of candidates to be considered, so our GPA on science courses and the test results is what they're looking at. I'm not too nervous at the moment about it now. Stomach stopped churning over the subject, so hopefully I'll be ok with the exam. I just know for sure it's a paper and pencil exam possibly, since they asked us to bring a couple of Number 2 pencils. But thanks for the info, now I'm going to memorize the conversions an focus on the science part a lot harder than the other subjects. I'm doing fairly ok with English. Well I'm going to take their online assessment this test weekend to see how well I do and will definitely keep everyone posted. Wish me luck

I took the TEAS a few months ago and used the preparation manual sold by ATI. If you use the manual, you should do fine. I needed refreshers on some of the physics and earth science related stuff like food chains, so it was worthwhile to buy the manual. Also, we couldn't use a calculator so the math review was helpful to me.

That said, the test is much easier than the things in the book, so if you are doing even halfway decent on the book's practice tests, you will do fine on the exam.

Thanks Nov, that's a relief to hear. Hopefully I'll do just fine then. I'm passing all of the practice test from the manual with a 90% or higher. I guess I'm down to memorizing everything now...lol...Thanks a bunch.
