TEAS 5 practice test vs real test

Published

HI, I am wondering how you guys did on the actual TEAS test compared to the practice test that they have not only in the book, but also online. I have studied my but off with the TEAS prep book, Kaplans, and McGraw for over a month and I took the practice test once before I started and got a 61%. I just took the practice test again online after all the study'in and only got a 67%!!!!! I take the TEAS V on Monday!!! I am sooo freaked out from my grades on these 2 practice tests. I have a 3.9 GPA in college and have taken advanced A&P, Chem, and Phy. Got A's in them all and now cant get a good grade on this for the life of me. Pointers please??

I would relax.

Now i haven't take version V but I have taken version 4 which i thought was horrible but that was because i siked myself out like you're doing. So take a few deep breaths and relax you are going to do fine.

Make sure you watch your time that is really important. If you get stuck move on to the next question and go back to it when you finish.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

When I took it the proctor told us all that students that tended to have better test-taking skills appeared to do better on the TEAS V more frequently. I agree with the previous poster. Don't freak out. Pace yourself well. Go through the questions you can answer WELL first and come back to the questions that will require more of your time. Try to zone out the people around you and don't worry about being the last person to finish a section as long as you finish within the allotted time. I also found that it was REALLY IMPORTANT to make sure you're reading the questions carefully and correctly or else you'll go off figuring out an answer to a math, science or language question that was not asked. Get lots of rest the night before and EAT before you get there. I found myself rushing a bit to get to break times so I could grab a snack or something. Not smart.

the teas v is cake! the actual test is 5xs easier, while the practice tests are much harder (i think they did that on purpose). i came out with an 83 :) and it got me into my bsn program. when i took the practice test almost have of my answers were wrong :(. but just stay calm and relax, if you need to write down every math problem go for, never do any math in ur head. sci is mostly general biology with very few anatomy questions (maybe like 3) i had 1 or 2 physics questions. math is mostly adding, subtracting, multiplying. lots of percentages (just know how to divide decimals). reading was just reading :). but english grammar sucked for me, as you can tell :)

From my experience, the online practice tests are harder than the actual test; however, the types of questions on the practice tests were more similar compared to what you find in the books.

I got a 75% and 81% on the practice tests and ended up getting a 90.7% on the actual test. I studied (A LOT!) the ATI/McGraw Hill books and random websites that I found on this site.

Definitely skip the McGraw Hill physics section! I wasted my time memorizing all the formulas/laws.

When I took the online practice tests, I took plenty of notes and tried to logically reason why I got the question wrong. Once it scores a question, you can click on the choices and it tells you why that choice is wrong/right. I wrote everything down and used that as part of my study guide. You can take each test a second time, so if you haven't already - I would greatly advise doing so.

Since your test is on Monday, I would just focus on your weak areas.

Reading is pretty straight forward on the test. I remember a lot of 'is this a stereotype/opinion/fact' questions. Only 2 or 3 passages, a few paragraphs to read, and the rest were just looking at a chart and answering questions.

The math seemed pretty straight forward and is nothing far from the ATI book and what you saw on the online test. A looot of percentage and fraction questions, but they were so simple. Maybe one or two world problems that were kind of tricky, but not hard to work through them once you start writing it out on paper. I got a 96 on this section and I am terrible at math.

Science..was surprisingly not that bad! To be honest, I brushed up on my general biology before the test and I think that helped me a lot. I didn't use the book for that, but instead some videos through a website called Khan Academy. Master the concepts of Life Science - photosynthesis, aerobic respiration, and cell replication (mitosis, meiosis, rna, dna, mrna, etccc.). Chemistry was really simple - like counting electrons, single/double bonds, and balancing equations. If you did well in your Chemistry and retained that information, you should have no problem. I had a lot of scientific reasoning questions, but they were definitely easier than the online versions!

English was just like the online practice test and the book. I have always done well in English throughout school, but studying for this section was so aggravating. There are so many grammatical rules that we do not use anymore. I spent one entire day mastering subject-verb agreement! Make sure you know that inside and out!

In retrospect, I think the biggest advice I could give is to do whatever you have to do to be relaxed on your testing day!! I was soo nervous when I started my test. My hands could not stop shaking/sweating! hahaha..I went through the entire reading section totally freaking out! Not surprisingly, that was my worst section! I made so many stupid mistakes because my mind was not in the right place. Don't let that happen to you!

Good luck!! :yeah:

Are there a lot of conversion problems on Teas Test V? i.e. Kg to lbs

I just came back from taking the TEAS V so I thought I'd share my post-test thoughts. First of all - as many have said - the actual test was much easier (or seemed to be) than the online assessments. I got an 88% overall today which is in the 98% percentile. When I took the practice online tests, I did really poorly. However, I did take them BEFORE I really studied, just to see where my weak spots were.

My advice would be to use the ATI book and brush up those topics you find difficult. I studied off and on for a few months, but really hit it hard for about a week prior.

FYI: the reading section was just like the book, I thought. Reading passages and answering questions. Just review that stuff and you should be fine.

The math was not too bad, but did have a lot of long-division, and multiplication. Just tedious stuff here, not really hard. My advice here is to recheck your answers b/c you know one tiny error can give you an incorrect answer that is one of the choices!

Science was a mixed bag, but only ONE earth science question. If you recently took A&P, Chem and Bio, you'll be fine. But, if it's been a few years and you are rusty.... please review the basics.

The English section - to me- was super easy, I got 100%. However, our proctor told us that this section tends to have the lowest scores at our university. Her theory was that younger students may not get a good grounding in spelling and grammar due to texting and spell check. I'm not sure if I buy that reasoning, but it is something to keep in mind. Another thing about the English section is that it is last, and by that time people are getting tired. Plus, you start hearing others printing their results and leaving which might cause you some anxiety.

Anyway, my main advice is to review what you are consistently missing and RELAX when you take the test. Good luck to all!

Are there a lot of conversion problems on Teas Test V? i.e. Kg to lbs

If I remember correctly, there was only 1. They give you the formula for it though so it is pretty easy! You don't need to memorize how many pounds are in a kilogram or anything like that.

I just took the teas v today, I get the result tomorrow, but al least the real test seem easier than the practice test online, there were a few questions that were not cover in the manual, but pretty much everything is in the manual

Specializes in NICU, Trauma, Oncology.

I was scoring around 77% on practice tests, scored 92.7% on the real deal. Review what you miss on the practice and study the ATI book cover to cover.

For my experience, the actual test was a bit harder than the practice test. At least the math section was. Other than that, it was somewhat similar and the practice tests should really help.

What practice tests are you taking? I am having a hard time finding a practice test other than the ones in the books and I feel like it would be easier if it was online :/... thank you!
