TEAS EXAM: I failed... Anyone take it with some advice? I failed the science portion. GRR... I am very weak on life science and general science. I was wondering, if you take it the second time, is it the same test or is it a different one with all new answers?
Thanks, I need all the help I can get!
I am taking the test tomorrow ladies. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! So scared but, at the same time I have this peaceful feeling and know that either way things will work out! I haven't anatomy in like 4 yrs and remember nothing but, I still am happy! I tried to do some reviewing but it's just not sticking! I hope that everything just weighs out accordingly! I'm excited to see what it will be like. Wish me luck!
I am mad that I just can't retake this test without going through a remedial. I have pass remedial before I can retest. Thank God, I have another RN nursing application with the County of Los Angeles, I am thinking about applying to WestCoast College too. I am schedule to take the California Achievement Test for the County Of Los Angeles. At least I have a OUT!!!
Great job! I wish you luck and hope that you will be able to begin school August 2010! I can keep you updated with how things are in the program. I begin this Fall. We were the 'guinea pigs' of the TEAS exam so.....I do know they will be using the exam throughout nursing school, almost like a benchmark so continue to study it!
OneDayAttaTime said:I'm sorry karenroxx. I just took it this past Tuesday. I don't know if the ATI study guide is good or not--I see posts that say it helped and others that say it didn't help to much. I used the NLN book to study for it. I also need to take the NLN so I had already bought the book and didn't want to buy another one. Plus, I found out I had to take the TEAS at the last minute (as a post-acceptance test). I found the parts of the NLN book that I studied to be helpful...it was the same kind of questions. I only had a few days, so I looked at the math first. I haven't had math since 2001 so I felt RUSTY...but after reviewing some of that stuff it came back. The NLN books also gives little tips and short-cuts for stuff. Next, I started to review the science section. This had some good info in it too. I didn't get to finish studying this part so I didn't do as well on the questions on the test that had to do with earth science--like rocks and cloud questions--b/c I didn't review that (and I've never taken that sort of class)
Other than that, you can't really study for the English part...the practice tests in that area really just help you practice increasing your speed.
But I scored in the 90th percentile nationally, and 93rd in the program. They told me not to worry about my sucky physical science (rock stuff, lol) score because I got a 100% in the A&P section and that's what we really need to know in nsg school anyway...
Good luck!
Congrats what campus are you at?
I took the TEAS test and did good on the Science part. It was just basic common knowledge either you know it or you don't. Science is such a broad subject, I don't know how you can really study for it if you don't know what will end up on the test. it's like they can throw anything at you, you just have to know it.
I would suggest trying to apply to a school that doesn't make you take the TEAS.
Took the TEAS today and I am soooooo happy. I ranked in the 99th percentile with an overall 92.4%.
I used both the Kaplan guide and ATI's official TEAS study guide. Get the ATI study guide!!! It totally saved me. The Kaplan was a waste of time. The ATI guide is exactly like the test. And all those questions people complain about like types of rocks and types of plates in the ocean. They are in the ATI book whereas Kaplan didn't have any of that.
I also paid for an ATI practice exam and it was identical to the real thing. I even logged into the same place when I took the simulated and the real test.
My break down was:
Reading 95% and 89th percentile
Math 100% and 99th percentile
Science 83.3% and 97th percentile
English 92.7% and 99th percentile
I don't completely understand percentile ranking as in reading I got 95% but fell into the 89th percentile. Science was my lowest at 83.3% but I ranked high in the 97th percentile.
I had planned on taking it more than once but I don't think I need to. Again I highly recommend the ATI guide and their online practice exams.

I am sorry to hear that you didn't pass. The teas test is hard to study for because you don't know what to expect. At least now you have a heads up on what to focus your studies on. When I was studying for the teas test I was most concerned about the science portion too, I got a membership to Netflix and they have movies that you can rent all about science. There is one for chemistry, physics, A & P, etc. They are made for junior high students and they really broke it down into the most basic information that you need to know. The video's are a little corny but I passed the teas and scored higher in science than anything else. Hope this helps.
