Teacher appreciation week...

I love teachers. Many of my friends are teachers.

I'm sick of hearing about all of the wonderful activities that we will do for Teacher Appreciation week. Someone even made a joke at the last staff meeting about "having to share the treats with the social workers, office staff and nurse." Um, it's my week, too. Ugh. Sorry, just had to vent.

I have been debating all year on whether or not I should sign that intent form for next year. Every ounce of me wants to go somewhere else, but my hours are perfect for as many kids as I have, and I am doing my masters. So I have decided to stay and endure lol. I do not wish this on any one and I am sorry you are going through it, but I hope you find a job that gives you the appreciation and respect you deserve.

The nursing office secretary and I (from the district office) delivered gifts to each of our school nurses in the clinics. Out of 11 schools only 2 had recognized their clinic nurse. I was very disappointed considering an email was sent to the schools' administrative secretaries "reminding" them today is National School Nurse Day. I feel sad for the nurses in my district that they aren't included in many of the activities with the rest of the staff, rarely get an uninterrupted lunch break and aren't appreciated by the staff in their schools. This is the first year we have had a full time nurse in every clinic and it seems the staff has already forgotten about what it was like to not have a nurse at all and the office staff had to take care of everything themselves.

The nurses that the district nurses office secretary and I visited were very excited that we took the time to stop in and personally tell them how much we appreciate them and give them the small gift we had.

I also made it a point to announce to the front office that we were there to show our nurses some love on THEIR day! The office staff looked like they wanted to crawl under their desks!

I bet you made their day ? they are blessed to have ya'll in their corner. It truly is heartbreaking giving your all to a job who doesn't even acknowledge your worth and contribution.

Y'all. I have to brag on some of the local districts around my area. Including our Regional Education Service Center. They have all been making a big deal of nurse's week! Granted, I don't know if they have done anything actually in person for the school nurses in our area, but they have been sharing some mad love on facebook for them which I think is awesome! I even had a local stand alone ER bring me a gift basket in this morning! Completely unexpected! It's been a good week for school nurses (and nurses in general) in my little area and I'm so glad some appreciation is being shown!

That's amazing! I'm glad you did that and made the office staff uncomfortable on their behalf. I'm sure you made all those nurses' day!

Thank you Kaynrn, I hope they do know how much they are appreciated. I treat everyone with the same respect and consideration that I want to receive. Degrees, titles or positions do not impress me or cause me to treat people differently. It's their heart and intentions that I look at. The nursing staff we have right now do give their all to their schools and the students love each of them. The students are always drawing pictures or writing notes that the nurses proudly display in their clinics. I just cannot wrap my head around how professional adults will not give another professional the same courtesy. ?

Kaynrn, I do hope you are enjoying YOUR day!

Thank you Blue_Moon, for your response and for the job you do every day! The unappreciative attitude really upsets me.... not for myself (I'm just a sub) but for the nurses, like yourself, that give their best everyday and are treated with such disrespect. It's the one thing in the school system that really burns me up.... the rest of the political BS I can deal with.

I agree, I could never treat another the way I have been. I give respect to all I encounter on a daily basis regardless of their status as well. That is just how I was raised. I have considered giving back what I get, but that would just bring me down and I have decided I will continue being me. I am having a good day :D I have learned to be content and look at the positives every day. I am thankful for the kiddos because honestly they are the reason I am staying with this job. I have my artworks proudly displayed as well and I know I am the only smile and hug some kids get all day. Thank you for your kind words and I hope all of you nurses have a blessed day and week!

All three of us met with our top admin yesterday...not one word!!!

I got more love from my friends on FB and here!!

At my school they do a staff appreciation week, which was last week. All week we had a snack bar in our break room and each day a small gift in our box. This week they surprised us by letting us leave work 2 hours early. Wednesday's is half day for our students and we got to leave shortly after them, yay!
