TCU or TWU BSN Program

Hi everyone, I'm currently looking into TCU or TWU to complete my BSN, which I am looking to transfer somewhere for Spring 09 so I can apply for nursing school for the fall. I have already completed the HESI which I took originally took for an ADN program. I know at TWU I would have to take the NET, and my scores for the HESI where rather high and I would like not to have to take another test but I know I will have to in order to apply, but I am trying to figure out which program should I really shoot for, I know I would need to knock out fewer gen ed classes at TCU and fore go Chemistry. Yet, at TWU I would need Chemistry and also a more gen ed classes than at TCU.

My question is for those at both schools....how do you like the schools and the nursing programs, as far as resources, professors, books, the acceptance process and AVERAGE GPAs on getting in. Have you had good experiences and what are the positives and negatives.

I'm also want to be a CRNA which is another reason I am leaning more toward TCU. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! :nurse:

I'd select the school with the least expensive tuition since the end result will be the exact same: a BSN degree and RN licensure. If the end result will be identical, you might as well graduate with less debt. Hospitals and hiring managers don't give a rat's behind where you attended school. They'll hire you as long as you're a warm body with a nursing license.

In addition, were you aware of the nurse anesthesia program at Texas Wesleyan (over in east Fort Worth)? Click on the link below for more info.

I am at TCU in the accelerated BSN program now. In short, I love the program but don't think it is worth the $$ I am spending.......but PM me for specifics

I went to TWU Houston and it was very affordable and I loved having all my clinicals in the med center.

I went to TCU and I LOVED it. Every nursing school is going to have its ups and downs, but all in all, TCU is an exceptional nursing school. I miss it a lot.

I thoroughly agree. No WAY would I pay the extra $$ for TCU or Baylor nursing school when UTA and TWU are right up the road for a considerably less amount of money. Even if it's "Daddy's $$", I wouldn't do it. You will get NOTHING extra from going to a private school. Trust me, I've worked with new grads from the schools all over the metroplex and I'm still perplexed at why they dish out thousands of dollars extra to wear the purple scrubs, LOL!

Harris Methodist has a great accelerated BSN program in conjunction with UTA. You just need to do some research.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but I kind of take offense to the statement that TCU students "dish out thousands of dollars extra to wear the purple scrubs, LOL!" I am certainly not going there because of the scrub color.

There are several factors that went into my decision to go to TCU, one of them being that I could obtain my BSN in 15 months and "get in, get out, and get on with my life" so to speak. I know it's about 11 times more expensive than TCC or other schools, but to me, it's worth it for the fact that I get done so quickly. I just did not want to be in school for 2 years and I could not find other accelerated programs at the time.

Please don't make assumptions about those of us who choose private schools over public. Our reasons for doing so vary greatly and we don't all have "Daddy's $$" to spend.

I just see no other added value to TCU vs. any of the other programs. If they turned out amazingly superior RNs you would *so* have me convinced. They aren't bad, they aren't great....considering the tens of thousands of dollars more you spent on your degree, I just don't get it. I can, however, respect that you wanted to be in and out of school in a short time though!

Please know I did not mean to disrespect TCU. I've worked alongside some of their grads and they are more than capable nurses. It's just the $$ factor I highly disagree with.

I got my first degree from TCU, and then went to TWU for my accelerated BSN. I really loved my time at TCU, but when I decided to go get my nursing degree, I chose TWU because it has a good reputation and is ridiculously cheap compared to TCU. TWU's Dallas campus ain't pretty (although they are about to break ground on a new one), but I am very satisfied with the quality of education that I got. I loved almost every one of my professors, and now that I am out the "real world," I feel more up-to-speed than some of my other new grad coworkers who went to different nursing schools.

And if you want to go to TCU for anesthesia, I don't think it will make that much of a difference whether you went there for your BSN or not. What will matter are your grades and whether you have solid critical care experience.

As a proud TCU alum who bleeds purple, my vote would be for you to go to TWU for your BSN.

I have to agree, I definitely did not dish out 10's of thousands of dollars just to wear purple. In fact, I started at TCU my freshman year (had not chosen nursing yet) because I received a huge scholarship. My scholarship and grants covered A LOT of my tuition.. And I chose nursing there because the program was so great. I can assure you that the rich people in my nursing class were few and far between. We were all on grant, scholarships and loans otherwise, and all feel like it was an exceptional nursing school. I am proud that I went there and wouldn't do it over any other way.
