TCU CRNA program for January 2015

Published

Applied to TCU's Nurse Anesthesia program to start January 2015. Thought it would be interesting to see what people's progress/updates are these next couple months, and any advise someone may have to offer. Let the wait begin....

interviewing 2mro, heard it's 2 different panel interviews...who knows, i'm okay with whatever they throw my way. I dont look so good on paper: Cumulative GPA 3.0, Last 60 hours 3.7. GRE 47 on Math, 57 on Reading, 4.0 on writing. 3+ years ICU. Went non-traditional on my essay and kept it real. These people wanna know if you are gonna be able to pay, pass your tests, and give the school a respectful reputation. If this were my business, I would want the same. The interview process may be tough but talk to them like you would a physician at the bedside with the patient listening to everything you say. They may ask questions but you can always answer the way you want to answer! Dont let them lead you, YOU lead them.

They also want to know you can be beneficial to the field of anesthesia, what you can bring to the table, how you will defend it, advance it and honor it as well as what you have done now that can help you reach all of those different things.

How did everybody else's interview go, anybody got a good feeling?

I know this is an annoying question, but I have to ask. Can anyone else who recieved an interview share their GRE? Did anyone apply with a 102? I know the website says only GRE>102, but I recently took the GRE and scored 150 verbal, 152 quant, and 4.0 writing. Does anyone think I should retake it before applying next year or do you think they would be ok with it due to my really good gpa?

Interviewed today with the 11 am group. Thought it went well. Acceptance emails should be sent between oct 1 and 15th they said. Staff was very friendly, facilities and campus are legit. I'm excited!

Y'all check your emails. I just got mine. I'm accepted!

I'm in as well, I'll be doing the clinical portion at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston. Best of luck to everyone.

Hey guys I'm in as well! Going to be in Lafayette for clinicals. Super pumped! Congrats to you guys who got in!

Congrats....

I'm looking forward to apply next year in TCU. Please share your GPA, GRE, experience if you are one of the selected candidates and what did you do different to look outstanding in your resume. Like any extra courses? You can PM me too. Thanks in advance.

Icu2crna, I am not sure how to private message but you can email me at [email protected]

Specializes in Critical Care, CPICU, RAT, Current SRNA.

I was recently accepted with Tulsa, OK as my primary clinical site

GPA: 3.49 (I had a C in The Foundations of Nursing and OB. Mostly As in nursing clinicals and mostly Bs in nursing classes. I was asked in the interview to explain the situation)

GRE: 305 (Verbal 155, Quantitative 150) Writing: 3.5

Experience at time of interview: 3 years CPICU at a large hospital in Dallas. 1 year as certified charge and RAT RN. Critical care internship. I did not participate in any extra committees or unit based councils and no questions were asked regarding this fact.

Tips

- Have a recent CRNA job shadowing experience. They want you to have clear idea of the role. They will ask you this directly in the interview

- Get to know someone who is currently in the program. They asked me this.

- Emphasize your flexibility with regards to your primary clinical site

- If a portion of your application isn't ideal, be able to verbalize what you did to improve this portion.

- There are 2 interviews with 3 faculty members each. Remember the names of the faculty members who interviewed you during your first interview. They asked me this.

- They have you take a pseudo IQ test online prior to your interview.

- My 2nd interview with 3 faculty members was not the "fluffy, get to know you" interview that I was expecting based on previous forum posts. By no means did it require being able to speak to any intricate clinical knowledge, but it was an intense interview with a cold tone and difficult questions.

- If you are accepted, a $1500 non-refundable admission deposit is due a few weeks after you receive your acceptance letter. Therefore if you were planning to interview at multiple schools and weighing your options based on where you were accepted, think again.

Thanks for the info. Were the questions more personal or clinical based. How did you find a CRNA to shadow.
