TCC Spring 2016 Applicants

Published

I hope it's not too early to start a thread for those who are planning to apply to TCC this summer for Spring 2016. I will be applying with one A and two B's. I'm getting ready for my HESI test and I hope to get a good score. For those who have applied before, has anyone ever been accepted with one A.? I'm hopeful and also nervous. So let's get the ball rolling, and help encourage each other.

I think I'm going to be sick haha. Not feeling confident at the moment. if anyone does turn in on the 31st please ask how many applicants. Find out whatever you can haha Though to be fair even if there were 1000apps last semester I saw people get in with 1 B and an 88 hesi. And some alternates even lower. Still terrified though.

I won't judge them on their grades because some people (older generations) just aren't prepared for standardized testing. I think the only challenging portion was part of the reading... everything else was extremely easy. I wouldn't even say reading is hard... because it isn't.. but it is the more challenging portion.

However, some people just have no common sense. The people who do not do their research... take in applications with lower than 75's, etc. that is baffling to me. Like am I the only one who researches EVERYTHING! Katherine even told me people were so oblivious and rude... like when she had a sign on her door stating she was on lunch from 12:30-1:30... .a girl walked in. Katherine asked her if she saw the sign, and she said yeah I saw it. OKAY then why would you come in!?

I am nervous for the people who just slide by and get in to school off of cheating and just not even caring. Those are people I do not associate myself with. I like to be around people who are driven and have goals, like myself.

I have been surprised that they do not test on AP as well... but I guess they feel you are going to re-learn all of that in nursing school anyways.

Going to agree with that. I read the requirements five times over. I read everything I need to bring in TEN times over. I read what it actually takes to be competitive and not just qualify.

And I have to admit that the Drawing Conclusions portion of the reading made zero sense to me haha.

Aliyune... what were your scores again?? I am pretty sure you are extremely competitive if I remember correctly from prior comments.

This application period was definitely on the LOWER side .... like WAYYY lower. So stop stressing :)

But yes, she said that it is never sent out on the date that is listed (sept 15) ... she said be expecting it more towards the end of September.

When I was in her office on thursday... she said that "they" still haven't even come to pick up the apps yet and that she was pissed about that because they could have already started reviewing them.

Does anybody know who "they" is ??? Who reviews the apps and makes decisions.... for whatever reason, I thought it was Katherine.

My scores are competitive but not a certain like a lot of people posting here. 2As 1B and a 92.5 HESI

And I'm trying not to think about it too much. This semester I'm retaking my one B and focusing on that will help. it will also virtually ensure admittance next time around.

Ah the high overlords "they", controllers of futures haha. No idea who that could be.

Oh Alyune.. I am there with you then! 2As and 1B.... and my B was literally like a 89.7 and my professor would not curve! I was so upset... being pregnant that semester, I was proud of it though. Katherine says with 1B and 2As, you are competitive... and I think this go around.... from the grades I have been seeing..... and Hesi scores I have been seeing.... I THINK and HOPE we will be fine! :)

Good luck to us then!! I have two friends at my campus with crazy good scores but I'm noticing that's not the norm when I talk to people around campus. People applying with Cs and mid 70 HESIs. We'll see!

I applied with a 3.0 and a 90.5 hesi. The lady before before me had 2 A and 1 B and a 94 hesi and Katherine said that was one of the highest scores on the hesi. I really don't think I will get in this time around so I will retake AP 1 in the Spring when I have enough money saved up.

I applied with a 3.5 GPA and 88.5 Hesi. I dropped off my application on Monday and the applicant count I was given was 200 so to be at 250 by Thursday... I doubt the applicant pool will be over 325 this semester but I'm still nervous. I didn't think I had a shot at the 150 but asked Katherine if my scores are enough to land an alternate spot and that's when she mentioned that there weren't as many applicants and that from what she is seeing my scores are very much competitive for this pool of applicants but she said that all depends on what scores the rest of the applicants have. I would hate to have to wait till next semester to apply again but now I know what I need to do to get my HESi score up. I wish there was more involved with the application process like an interview or a personal statement. I know some people work hard for their GPA and some had easier professors. All the professors I had were challenging. My API prof had very difficult exams and my AP II prof had exams that were part short answer essay and mapping concepts on blank pages as a part of the exam.

I did the same thing as far as double and triple checking things. I took my test on Monday and had my application completed and ready to turn in as soon as I got my HESI print out. I remember Sunday morning reading through the check list and making sure I had everything in the correct order and I knew where the testing site was and what to bring. During my test I recall a student requested that "they" activate the AP section because their school requires it. I wanted to shake my head. The proctor was confused and had to spell out what was required at TCC. I also had a few students surprised that I had my application packet ready to turn in. I was like "why wouldn't I, I'm already here?"

How are applicants notified of the later date to let students know of entrance, rejection, or alternate? We are all told that we will know Sept 15th, but people are saying that has been extended to the end of Sept. Do they let us know of the extension via email, on tccd website in the nursing section, do we just wait, etc.? I realize they often push back the date, but I would like to be notified of the change from the Nursing Dept itself versus "word of mouth".

They will not notify you that it is extended.. They take their time reviewing apps. They will take as much time as it takes... Once they have answers... They start sending out emails. You can call Katherine instead of listening to "word of mouth".... But my words came from Katherine's mouth.
