You can claim your registration fees, professional dues , exam fees etc. Your will be provided with a tax receipt.
The hardest part is to remember your claim the fees in the year they were used for, not the year you paid them.
For example - in Ontario, we pay our dues in Nov for the following year.
So - for this years tax return, you will claim the fees paid in Nov 2008 because they were used for your license in 2009.
The fees we paid this past Nov (Nov 2009) will be claimed next year.
Hope that makes sense!

In some provinces the registration year begins in the fall and not on January 1, so those fees are claimable in the current year.
Also remember that you cannot claim any tax paid on those expenses.
And nurses do not have the ability to claim employment expenses such as uniforms, stethoscopes, shoes, and that sort of thing, unlike some other occupations.

That sucks Jan! I'm dropping hundreds of dollars this year to get all the materials I need.
What is killing me is that I've paid over $3000 in tuition for last semester and only about 1200 of it was for the courses - the rest was BOOKS which of course are not claimable for any significant amount and they don't provide a clear breakdown of costs. And I don't think I'm going to use those books again in my lifetime (A&P anyhow) but you can't get them used.
Can't wait to get out there and start EARNING my keep. This school stuff is pricey!
do we still need to call CNO and request the tax receipt or do they just mail it to everybody?
Your tax receipt should be with your registration when it comes in the mail. It usually says something like "Please retain this receipt for tax purposes. No duplicates will be issued." That reminds me, I'd better find mine!

Actually depending on what sector of healthcare you work in, you can claim certain expenses (ex - uniforms, equipment, fax machines etc) best advice would be to ask your accountant

I don't know if Ontario is different, but in BC, you can claim registration fees, but not exam fees . That was $440 or so I paid in 2008 and couldn't claim!!
anybody here knows if I can include my CPNRE fee in my tax return for Ontario?
