Tattoos in Nursing

Published

What do you think about Nurses with tattoos?

Do you have tattoos?

Should tattoos be shown during work as a Nurse?

There is no right or wrong answers. Thank you.

I was not judging the original poster I was offering a different opinion because she stated with great pride that she received nothing but great feedback on her half sleeve ink. In fact, I would defend any person's right to present themselves in whatever manner they feel is appropriate to their situation, but I also believe I deserve the right to have an opinion and express it. Over the last 10 years Dozens of people have showed me their tattoos with the expectation that I offer an opinion, unfortunately I have observed that these individuals only want compliments. That is why people who proclaim that they do not care what anyone thinks, myself included, select family and friends who agree with and support their choices. Everybody wants friends that are yes-men/women, and even close friends for decades are put off by the truth if it differs from their perception.

Great. I'm not supporting your choice to insult my friend.

As expected, I am derided for having a differing opinion. If I had said the poster was wearing an unattractive dress would you have felt similarly justified in attacking MY CHARACTER???

I thought you didn't care what other people think?

You tried for a badass moment here, you failed.

I'm over it.

I've never seen a tattoo that doesn't look ghetto/trailer-trashish. Not my thing. BUT society is changing and uniqueness is becoming more and more acceptable and even encouraged in the name of political correctness. Just my 2 cents..

Farawyn, As soon as your friend went beyond rhetorical discussion about tattoos and posted a large photo of her tattoo on this open forum and prefaced it by saying she had NOTHING BUT GREAT FEEDBACK it implied she was open to comment. Apparently the irony of my statement about not caring what people think when we are looking for yes-men... was lost on you. But, as you say I am over it.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I'd say that I pick my friends because they appear to make good choices, and have values in the same ballpark as mine. I like it when my friends agree with me, but it's not a prerequisite. I get called out for stuff all the time because my friends have my interest at heart and tell me when my behavior is inconsistent or fails to live up to their standards. That's why their opinions matter: they lead me in directions that are good for me. But I guess we all have our own criteria for picking friends.

From this end it seemed like you wanted to be "derided." You came in guns blazing, daring us to "label" you because of your opinion. If things turned out negatively for you, I dare say it was a self-fulfilling prophecy brought on by acting judgmental and mean from the word go - behavior people generally dislike.

Tattoos do not bother me. I suppose it is generational since I was born in the early 1980s. A significant number of people in my age range have been 'tatted' since their preteen years, so I grew up seeing them.

One of my coworkers has arms that are covered with tats. An elderly patient asked him if he'd ever been to jail. He said no. She then asked him if he was a recovering addict. Back in her time, the only people with tattoos were sailors and convicts.

Dear Rose Queen, It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out my responses and comments. But thanks for the lecture, Professor. You must be a professor as well as a rose queen.

I am not a crusty old bat. Yes I am getting older everyday and so are you, Rose Queen. I could call you a few names too, but I will refrain from doing so.

If you do, you will be reported and your post will be deleted. So, yes, refraining from that is probably in your best interest.

Well, you got to call me a crusty old bat and it was not deleted. How does that work? Strong people build each other up rather than tearing each other down. Obviously you have some grudge or chip on your shoulder. I prefer not to get caught up in that, but I am offended at your name-calling and disrespectful behaviour towards me. I consider myself a strong person. I will not tear you down as you did to me, but rather express my sympathy for you instead. Hoping you find strength of character.
