Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

Published

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

Doodle, welcome!

Forgive me if you've already taken care of most of this, but it looks like you just needed a little direction. I got plenty from others on here too!

Probably the first thing you should get taken care of is getting your nursing skills pack paid for at the business services office on the 1st floor of Trinity River campus. Print out your student fee PDF's (2) from the acceptance email you received and take those with you. Stop into the bookstore while you're there to pick up your patches and order your name tag. Don't know if you are planning on taking the TNSA CPR class in January, but if you need to, you should probably call the nursing department to get registered. You pay for that at the business services office as well.

Clarification needed everyone.......I have a student ID from a year ago...did I read 15-20 pages back that regardless if we have that we need to get a new one made anyway as they are a different style?

yeah I bought my stethoscope from medisave for $71, engraved and free shipping. You bought the same one I did, you wont regret it.

I'm ordering my books from Amazon too! I love Amazon... lol

You know what?! With my credit card points I was able to order $200 gift card from amazon! It kind of feel like I'm getting my books for free :)

@Cross, FYI... there is one book that I saw on amazon that does not come with the online access code. It is hard to know unless you read the reviews from other ppl who have already bought the book.

Specializes in Hoping to do either L&D or Trauma.

Jefe - yes, the ones we need are the hanging vertical ones like TCC staff wear. Katie told me not to worry about those until after orientation, thankfully. LOL

@Doodle - I would also add to complete your background check as soon as possible, since it can take a few days to arrive at TCC.

Yikes! Thanks cross! Forgot to mention background check. Also forgot to mention paying for drug test too.

cross- if you go to web advisor and click on "books" next to the class it.will show a list of.books we need to buy.

Rossy- That's awesome! for those of us who are getting FA its sort of like getting it for free since we get a reimbursement lol.

thanks everybody for all the advice. I have already done background , paid for nurse supply kit and have done all my shots. I made appt with dr to get health form filled out already getting CPR from somewheres else. was told I couldn't get and ID until i was reg for classes. I am not taking any currently cuz I had nothing left to take. My concerns were uniforms and patches and name tags were the real concerns.

How do you guys know what uniforms to get. what is Scrubs etc? is that who will be there at orientation or is this another company. I really need the best deals but also want to have the correct stuff.

lifeuniform will.be at the orientation. But scrubs etc. will give you the 15% off also since your a student. Does not matter what brands and style as long as its a White v-neck scrub top and teal scrub pants. Shoes have to be white closed toes and heel.

Yeah, I forgot about FA :-P I compared the list of books from the students package to the ones on webadvisor and they are the same, so I think we'll be ok!

Hey I just wanted to remind y'all, TNSA also sells scrubs for $2 a piece. You may be able to go to the TNSA office after orientation to see what they have. Last semester, they gave us a mini tour of the TREC and that is where we picked up our nursing skills pack (from TNSA at TREC). $2 per top, $2 per bottom, and $2 per lab coat. Most should already have patches sewn on. They are uniforms donated by students who are graduating and it's really a great deal.

Also, Scrubs etc is way cheaper than Life Uniform, even without the 15% discount. Just FYI.

awesome! thanks for the information!

The textbook for nursing skills says 4th edition on the student package and 5th edition on webadvisor?!?!?! I didn't buy this one until I make sure... I bought 4 other books, one of them was only 7.95$ and I still spent more than 200$!!! Ouch :smackingf

Here you go doodlebug....to find the nearest location to you http://scrubsetc.com/

I live about 2 miles from the one in Grapevine. They have shoes, stethoscopes, etc.

txhusker, upon reading the nursing student handbook, it doesn't specify v-neck. I believe it just says white top. anyone know for sure? I really hate v-necks.
