Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

Hey guys,

I have a question about the transcript evaluation that we are supposed to submit with out app. for TCC, are we supposed to do anything besides just submit a request for one through web advisor? I requested one in May but its been about 2 months and I haven't gotten one yet, so i just submitted a request for another one yesterday, hopefully I can get one by the app. period.

It totally is me and I know u! Good to hear from u. I am going to retake chem this fall too just in case 3.25 isn't enough to get me in. What else are u taking??

I thought that might be you! I had originally planned on just taking chemistry but that may be changing very soon. I may also take college algebra and an intro to nursing class at Northlake or El Centro. I'm still exploring the possibility of going to either of those programs as well and those last few classes would do it. It's hard to know what to do, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket!

So you got the job at HCA?? For a while I was looking into DCCC but needed to take one of their skills check off classes and could never get my schedule to match with it. I have a friend at the restaurant who just got into Northlake and he loves it!

Txhusker- It took my transcript evaluation awhile to come in also. AND they made a mistake on mine and put a B in a science where I really got an A so it was a hassle to get that fixed but it all worked out. If you took science classes anywhere but TCC then you need to submit a course description for each of those classes (science wise). They give you a website once the app is posted where you can look up the descriptions. So in my case, I had to sunbittern descriptions for A&PI, chem, and micro due to me taking them at UTA and OU. Hope this helps. Ask questions if you need and good luck to all!!

*sumbit. I'm sorry.. Typing on my phone isn't always a good thing..

If anyone wants to know I just called TCC asking about the HESI & what were required to take on there, but the lady said they should know by the end of this week just to call again Friday or Thursday... since they really haven't made it clear.

I am applying for admission to TCC and hopefully I'll be in your shoes this time next year. I have most of my Gen Ed classes completed from another University and hopefully most of those credits should transfer. I will have to take both A&Ps, Micro, and hopefully I can test out of math. My Chem should transfer, if it does it's a B+. Do transcript evaluations really take months to be completed? Also where are the nursing classes held? South Campus or Trinity River? Thanks in advance for your help!

Once accepted into the nursing program, the nursing classes are located at the Trinity River East Campus. They are opening it in August for the Fall 2011 class!! :)

Thanks lmd! I just finished reading all 146 pages of the Fall 2011 thread today. It was very helpful!

I plan on applying to the TCC nursing program in January for the Fall 2012 semester. I followed the thread for the Fall 2011 applicants, very long thread, but very helpful info. I figured finally joining will help me understand the admission process better and what all needs to be done by the time of application. Now that is out of the way here is my situation and questions if anyone wants to take time to provide advice :).

So I graduated in 2010 from TCC with my associate of arts in general studies, transferred to Texas Woman's to get a bachelor of science in psychology, which I will be finishing in Spring of 2012 :D. But now decided psychiatric nursing is what I want to do. So I am back at TCC to complete the four sciences (Chem, A&P 1 & 2, and Micro) for their nursing program. I'm basically a "B" student, and its rare that I make an A especially in hard classes like these. Is there still hope for acceptance for B students? I took Chem and received a B, and am now in A&P 1, and taking A&P 2 and Micro in Fall so I can be done in time for the January application process. I know the HESI is also a factor in the acceptance process, which leads to my next question....when are the students who want to apply to the program in January supposed to take the HESI, and when should they start shots, do those need to be done before applying in January or the majority of them done? Also are we supposed to have the CPR certification completed when applying in January?

Sorry I have a lot of questions. I also know there are accelerated BSN programs for 2nd degree students, but only few schools offer this locally and they're very expensive. But it seems as though the ADN program and the accelerated is pretty close to the same time frame in graduation (15-18) months. Is anybody else in this same situation who can give advise on which is better/quicker to do?

I have so many questions I should probably talk to the nursing advisor, but I have yet to find out who that is, and contact information. So I came here in hopes to find answers to my billion questions.

Thanks in advance!! And congrats to all of those who got in from the Fall 2011 thread!!

mgorvie- YES! please give us the run down on what she tells you! I think any information will be greatly appreciated!!

lmd- thanks, I was wondering what was going on, I took all of my classes at TCC, but i was wondering why I never received the one I requested in may, it says about 3 or 4 weeks, but it has been two months and still nothing, so I guess ill wait and see if the request i put in a couple of weeks goes through.

whitney- when you apply for fall 2012, during the app. period they will have all of that information of when to take the HESI when they release the app. but i know you have to go to the trinity river campus to schedule your testing appointment. A "B" student is better than an "F" student, and i think as long as your grades dont drop and you do well on the HESI, you will be okay dokay. I took all of my sciences back to back and came out with 3 A's and 1 B, but the key is to figure out your study habit. As for shots, I would start them as soon as you can since the Hep. B takes six months, I get my last round of that in november. And your CPR and first aid certs should be done before you start the program given that you are accepted. If you decide to do the BSN accelerated program, it will take about the same amount of time, just think of it as an additional two years to get your bachelors, which is what I plan to do also.

good luck everyone! only about a month left until the application period begins!! :yeah::hpygrp:

which still seems like such a long time... :anbd:

Whitney- Txhusker answered a lot of your questions and did a great job of it! Like they said, a B student is still good. Don't rule yourself out quite yet! I would, however, try your hardest in your remaining classes to at least get one A if you can! A's are definitely more helpful, but you can still have a chance with B's. I had a 3.5 science GPA (A's in both A&P's and B's in micro and chem), but I was somewhat worried because most people in my thread had a bit higher. Work hard, but don't get discouraged!!! Like you said, Hesi scores are critical. I really can't give you much advice in this category though because we were required to take the TEAS V. Score high on the Hesi and it will take pressure off of the science GPA. As far as the time period for the Hesi, it will be during your application period. For instance, I took my TEAS in Feb. I believe and then submitted my application a week later. As far as shots go, try to get most of them done before you submit your application with the exception of the TB skin test and the flu vaccine. The more shots you have at the time you submit your application, the better. Wait for the TB skin test because it only lasts a year so you'll want to hold off on that until you know if your accepted or not. I had everything done except those two when I submitted my application, and I'm very glad I did. Not only does it help on the application, it also makes it easier if you do get in because thats one less thing for you to do during your busy get-ready time. CPR certification does not have to be done until you get accepted into the program and your about to start. I'm taking mine a week before orientation through TCC. They offer it for much cheaper than anywhere else I've looked into. Plus, they send your card right over to the nursing admin team so that way you don't have to worry about it.

I hope I covered most of the questions you asked. Once again, if you need advice or help just ask! I usually check this thread while checking our fall thread so hopefully I'll be able to help (it won't be as often starting school year though). Good luck to you all!!!!
