Hello to everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but already finding lots of great information. Are any of you familiar with or applying to Tarrant County College ASN program? I'm in the dreaded wait until the first part of May. I took my TEAS exam last weekend and did really well so I'm hoping for the best! I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
The letters usually come the first week of May. They work with many hospitals in Tarrant County, Harris Methodist, HEB and Downtown, Arlington Memorial, JPS, Plaza, Baylor All Saints, North Hills, and there may be a few others but I think that's it. It sounds like you have a strong gpa. That's great!!! If you did well on the TEAS that's great too. I don't want to discourage you, but they work on a point system giving you so many points per class completed. Not having your Micro done will keep you from earning those points. It truly depends on the applicant pool though. Seriously, anything can happen. They do calculate your gpa based on the courses you need for the program except for the elective and P.E. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be glad to answer them. :)
Yep, I know that not having micro is going to put me at a serious disadvantage. We were told during orientation that only two people got in last semester that were missing a science and they were at the bottom of the list. I guess only time will tell, and that's what makes things even harder. I would love to be able to make plans one way or the other.
I know. The waiting is so tough. Just hang in there. May will be here before you know it. When the time is right, you'll get in. I had applied for Spring '05 and didn't get in. I was so disappointed but you know what? My husband was run over by a fork lift in November of '04 and couldn't go back to work until March!! I was on the alternate list that semester and truly grateful that I never got the call. I was right where I needed to be then. Things have a really weird way of working out. Just two more months!!! We should start a countdown!! I've got my fingers crossed for you!!
Love,
Katy
Yes, enjoy the calm before the storm!! LOL!! Enjoy your family and having some free time, once you get into the program, time is a precious comodity. Sometimes it doesn't seem like there are enough hours in the day to get everything done. Once school starts, life gets crazy. Lots of adjustments to be made to the ole lifestyle. It's great though. I certainly wouldn't trade it but it can wear you down a little.
Hi ladies! I enjoyed reading your postings. I, too, am waiting to hear about getting into TCC for fall '06. However, I am a transfer student so I won't even get an interview until April or May. Did you have to go through an interview or is it only for transfer students?
I completed 2 semesters of the ADN program at another college, so I know how tough nursing school is. I was glad to read about the clinical schedule because, like Momto2beauties said, it is hard to find info about it, even on TCC's website.
I met with a nursing counselor last fall since I applied for admission for this semester (they didn't accept any transfer students). Because of differing clinical hours, I have to repeat a semester at TCC, which will put me in second semester. While on campus, I asked every nursing student I could what they thought about the program and ALL of them said they LOVED it!
Of course, it is just as tough as the other schools, but the faculty is supportive and understanding. That was great to hear, because most of the people in my previous program, including me, felt just the opposite.
Good luck to you both.
Well, good luck to you as well!! It must be really tough trying to transfer from another program. I don't know where you went before, but the move to TCC is so worth it. I'm not biased or anything...hehehe...but I believe that TCC has one of the best nursing schools in the area. The faculty is super supportive and into seeing you succeed. They make you work for it, but they are with you every step of the way. I love going to school there. I honestly feel like I'm getting a top notch education there. I think the interview must be exclusive to transfer students. I don't know of anyone who had to do one. When will you have to go for your interview? Do you know who it will be with? Well, gotta run get ready for my clinical day. Good luck!!
Yep, the interview must just be for transfers. I honestly wish that they would do it for new applicants too. I think you can tell so much about a person's true desire and sincerity by meeting with them for just a few brief minutes - you know what I mean?

What do you think made your application different from the semster you got on the waiting list and the semester you got in?
Believe it or not, it was a letter grade in chemistry. I think. When I made it to the alternate list I had a C and retook it and made a B. I honestly believe that was the only difference. That and the place where they ask you to write a short paragraph about why you want to go into nursing, I changed it a bit. I mentioned that I realized that the competition was fierce but that it would not deter me from continuing to apply and becoming a nurse. I really don't know if that made any difference or not. I think the chemistry grade had the most to do with it.

Yes, I did take the TEAS a couple weeks ago. Luckily it went really well so I was happy about that. I'll have to go back and look at my percentiles for the individual sectons. I know what my overall score was, but not by section. My biggest concern is that I am misisng microbiology. I'm going to take it over the summer, but they have no way of knowing that. I have a 4.0 in the other three sciences and I'm done with all the rest of prerecs with a GPA of at least 3.75. I don't know what it is right off the top of my head. I'm assuming they only base your GPA on the classes that you need to actually finish this degree, is that true? I have lots, and lots of classes from when I couldn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up : ) I guess tomorrow is the official application deadline and then the true waiting game begins. Do you remember when you got your letter?
Do you know which hospitals they work with?
