Hey, just wanted to know if there were any fellow Tarrant County College pre-nursing students out there? Just thought perhaps we could share ideas, rants, even commiserate w/ one another!
Well, it is super important to have supportive family and friends. However, I only have the support from my husband. Because all my family, I mean all my family is 2,000 miles away from here. We just moved here in the fall 08 and I don't really have a lot of friends that will keep my kids while I study. So, for my support system... I have my wonderful husband who does a great job taking care of them when I'm away in class or studying on the weekends. I take Chem on Sat. It works out great because I can devote Su-W for AP2 and Th-Sa for Chem. It definitely is a balance. You have to prioritize the time, once you can juggle that... It is an easy road. Stick to a schedule. That works for me. Best of Luck.....Any info on a good Micro teacher.... I can't personal message yet so it will be nice if someone can PM me with that info... I don't think we can write teacher's names here.
Even if you don't have family close by it sounds like you have a very good, caring, and supportive husband. As for the Micro class I haven't taken that yet. If I hear about a good prof, I will find a way to get you that info. Good luck in chem...it tried to kick my butt at every turn, but I studied like crazy! I'm glad that I waited until my kids were older to go for RN. Sounds like we have a good "support" group on here for TCC pre-nursing students!:anpom:
@ vcurrin i should be able to apply for the spring start...gotta finish microbiology this summer (ick!) and do the background ck thing, take the teas and pass! i'm busting my rear end and very nervous about the whole situation, but i'm positive i will get into the program. oh, yeah, i do have to take a/p ii also this summer. i'm really psyched about getting into the program and being a nurse. i have this gut feeling that this is where i need to be going...i feel like i'm headed in the right direction. are you still taking pre-reqs?
that's good. i took micro during the summer and it wasn't too bad, i really enjoyed the lab. definitely stay positive because if you don't believe in yourself who will. i know exactly how you feel; i know i was meant to be a nurse. i'm done taking all of my pre-reqs to apply to the program. i applied to tcc, weatherford, and uta-ap. i'm pretty confident about weatherford, and uta (maybe). i'm not quite sure about tcc because i don't know how they rate the applicants. but i will find out soon enough.
wow, both in one summer session... good for you. i don't know if i could do it. i have two little ones at home. i could maybe swing 1 but definitely not two. when i start nursing school. one of my kids will be in kinder and the other will likely be in pre-school maybe it will be better then. it has to be...so, did you apply this semester?
i was extremely afraid before i started the semester. but i told myself that it was only 6 weeks and that i could do it; and i did, and so can you. i studied every single day for at least two hours. i was trying to cram a lot of classes together so that i could apply for the fall of 2010. i have twins that are two, but i have a really good support system, and it sounds like you do too(your husband is all you need). we never know what we are capable of until we do it, and if you find yourself at wits end, remind yourself of the end result. yes i did apply for the fall. :)
I just took Chemistry 1406 and passed w/ an 85. I already had 60 credit hours from UNT from 10+ years ago. I'm in A/P I , Interpersonal Communications (speech), and Life Span development. All while working 40 hrs/wk!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the TCC Nursing Program no long accepts Interpersonal Communication as your Speech credit. You can only take Fundamentals of Speech Communications, Public Speaking, or Business & Professional Communication. This was put in place Fall 2009, so if you took Interpersonal before Fall 2009, the credit is "Grandfathered in", otherwise it will not count as a prerequisite credit. Check here for a current list of prerequisites: http://www.tccd.edu/Documents/Disciplines/Nursing/Frequently_Asked_Questions--08-06-2009.pdf
Also, there is an awesome Microbiology teacher at the NE Campus. I will PM those of you who were asking about one.

Oh, I so didn't pay attention to the speech class req. Duh! darn! oh, well, I can take the fundamentals though this summer. Taking interpersonal shouldn't hold me back...it's a good class overall and I am learning some techniques and perspectives that are helping me in my real life. As for the micro teacher, please share w/ me! I want to take it this summer. Thanks again for pointing out the speech req. Better to know now while I'm still doing pre-reqs so I can look into taking the correct class this summer.

You actually don't have to have the Speech credit before you apply, you can take it (and your PHED credit requirement) any time during the NS program, as long as it is completed before or during your last semester of nursing school.
PM's are on the way regarding the Microbiology teacher. The only prerequisite I have left is A&P II which will be taken this summer (I am in A&P I right now), so feel free to PM me about any other classes/professors you might have questions about.

The Dreamer,
Thanks for the personal message. I can't PM yet so I couldn't thank you personally. I'm currently taking AP2 and Chem. AP2 is great. I just study forever but I have a great teacher. Same one I took for AP1. Chem is a different story. The professor is the worst I have ever had my whole life. I basically am self teaching. I almost dropped before the census date which wouldn't show as an attempt but I stuck it out because I didn't want to be pushed back a semester. I don't know whether it was a good decision because I haven't finished the semester but I find myself thinking "Why did I do this?":uhoh3: The lab is horrific... he doesn't answer questions clearly, lectures are worse.... I have taught myself all of the first 5 chapters but I'm still not comfortable with my understanding of the subject. This semester with Chem has truly been my personal nightmare. So, if I survive. Chem. I only have Microbiology to take, 1 english and a speech.... I'm applying to both WC and TCC. How about you? When you do plan to apply? Thanks again for that extra piece of information.
I'm glad I found a good little clique for information and for support.

Loly82, are you taking Chemistry at the NE Campus? It sounds like you have the same professor I had when I took it last summer. It was a nightmare, especially having a bad professor and trying to wrap my head around all of it in only 6 weeks, but I managed to pull out a B (the only B I've gotten so far, grrrr). Is it an older gentleman, who has a wife that also teaches in the same department?
I will also be applying to TCC and WC. I will be taking my last class (A&P II) and taking the TEAS this summer, applying in the Fall for a hopeful entrance into Nursing School in the Spring of 2011. It's exciting and all so terrifying at the same time!
I'm a pre-nursing student at TCC on the NW campus. I applied to Weatherford for the fall, waiting to hear if I got in. I have completed all pre-req's for Weatherford except A & P II and PE. I'm taking both right now with 3 classes towards my bachelor's. You can't beat summer classes. I thought if I got into the nursing program for the fall, I would take the summer off, but I can't pass up the chance to get 4 more classes towards my BSN out of the way!
After this semester I too will have only four more classes after I get my RN to Bridge over to a BSN. I thought about taking them this summer to get them out of the way. The only thing is, in the nursing program not every semester is 12 credit hours, which will hurt me as far as my pell grant is concerned. So my plan is to take one of those classes each semester(all online, of course.) That way I would not have any issues with my Fin Aid.
Okay everyone. Up late studying for my ap2 exam and I find myself hating the respiratory system. The end of the chapter is kind of annoying to me. I decided to take a break. Isn't it funny how we write here and we go to the same school yet we don't know eachother, or maybe we do. Maybe you are the girl that sits next to me and writes every word that comes out of the teacher's mouth....:) I find it kind of amuzing that we share our pre-nursing frustrations with total strangers in the internet but yet we don't reach out to the other nursing hopefull students in our classes. Some..but definitely not all....
Sorry for the randomness of this post...
One question... Should I apply to WC without completing Micro or shall I wait. Will it hurt me not to have it completed? Anyone with experience on this and who has applied without one class, please share your opinions.
I'll get back to studying now...
