Hi everyone,
I will apply TCC Nursing school for Spring 2011. I will do my TEAS on 09/18 then apply.
Just want to share some info about your GPA, TEAS score, and some of the tips for the TEAS test.
I study a lot for the test but still nevous.... cross my finger.
My GPA overall: 4.0
TEAS score: i will know later
Not that I know of, great idea. Have you found any scrubs yet? I looked a little this past weekend with not much luck.
I need tall plus size, so I had to order them off Amazon. Got a decent deal from one of their shops.
I'm thinking about getting some large velcro and using that to attach my patches instead of sewing them straight on so I can bleach the shirts as needed and the patches won't fade. Anyone else do that, and is there a problem with the school??
I'll set up a Facebook group and post the instructions to join.
Ok.Facebook group name: :heartbeat
Tarrant County College Winter 2012
In case you have to search for it.
Pass the word around to anyone you know in the program. And respond here (or email me at my username {at} gmail.com) if you have any problems joining.
Ok, apparently I hadn't read the entire TOS and linking to other communities isn't allowed. (Sorry about that )... if you have any trouble finding the FB group, PM me or email as described.
Hello, nursing students. Congratulations on making it this far. I have posted a few times on here before and I'm a TCC fall 11 hopeful. I'm getting ready to take the dreadful Teas test. I have been studying the version 5 book and I'm wondering whether I need to memorize all those conversions for the test. I read somewhere on allnurses that the conversions where actually given on this version of the teas. Am I setting myself up for failure if I don't memorize them all? Obviously, I know the very basics, like kg to pounds, how many ounces in a pound, grams, feet, yard, centimeters, inches, etc.
Any other teas tips would be great, such as how many hours did you put into studying, should I study off of another book for the science section, how many practice tests did you all take? Is the book really harder than the test? I'm so nervous over this test. Any help would be appreciated.
Loly, I found that the science portion was poorly represented in the study book. Since I got in, I haven't had to drill down to the specifics of areas to study, but my general impression was that I should have taken each area that the study guide covered (chemistry, natural science, etc.) and gone back to my old textbooks for more specific information.
I don't honestly remember about the conversions, because I knew most of them already going in. you have to learn them for RN school though, so I'd say learn the major ones.
The grammar test was strange, so I should have spent more time on the study guide figuring out exactly what kinds of questions are given.
Good luck, hope to see you in the program!
antichick, the people I informed about the fb page and myself could not find it. I search it in the search bar with no luck, help pleaseloly, I echo the sentiments of the antichick as far as the science section is concerned. I would say the online practice tests you buy from ati are most helpful for that section. The book prepares you well enough for the rest. I didn't study alot but I do well on exams and knew most of the information I encountered in the book. I would say study until you have a similar mindset with the material.

i contacted ms. c since she is my theory and clinical instructor, regarding the reference books. here is the exact response she gave me. this may be helpful for others as well.
so glad to have you! here are a few suggestions to your questions. like you stated, there are quite a few resources to choose from. part of your decision may be guided by financial constraints or ease of access. since alot of your clinical paperwork will be completed outside of the hospital, you can utilize tcc's libraries resources, which are online. to access the tcc libraries, go to the main tcc portal and click on libraries.
there you should find a page that is called [color=#0000cc]tarrant county college library catalog. you will have to log on to the library site using your student access and password. click on the link that states "find articles" (databases) . scroll down the middle until you find "health & nursing" & then click on the link under it that states "nursing reference center".

nursing reference center
click on the link above and you will find the nursing reference center. it contains resources, books, a drug handbook by davis, and a laboratory book by davis. these are free for you to utilize.
to have a hardcopy of a drug hand book is recommended while you are at the clinical site, although the hospital does have resources there. the one i recommend (and the one all of your other courses in the future will be utilizing) is :
lexi-comp drug information handbook for nursing, 12th ed., turkoski
it has an online or pda version if you want to purchase it.
you can wait until our first day before you make any big decisions. you will not need these for a few weeks.
