Tarrant County College ADN Program Spring 2009!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey everyone!!! I just got accepted into the TCC program for the spring in 2009 and I am hoping someone else from TCC will find me on here that I can be excited with! If anyone has any suggestions for nursing school, PLEASE post it on here... I need all the help I can get! :yeah:

I am currently in the nursing program at TCC, and we are not allowed to wear crocs. They may have changed the policy since we first started (I am going into my last semester), but I don't think so. The shoe has to have a solid back. It can't be a strap. We also can't wear clogs. That's too bad because I sure would like a pair of crocs myself. I think there are a few hospitals that won't allow the crocs either for several reasons. Double check with your professor, but our clinical instructor and Theory instructor told us we couldn't. I don't think I have ever seen a student at TCC wearing crocs, so I'm pretty sure they haven't changed it. Good luck with your first semester.

Thanks Heloisea I was just hopeful because these shoes do actually come over the heel in addition to the strap (I tried a pair on). But I figured it was a far-fetched hope!

I love crocs, sure wish we could wear them. I think I'm going to go with New Balance walking shoes. I buy their running shoes and they last forever and have never hurt my feet. They are reasonably priced as well.

Has anyone started reading yet? I just started 2 days ago and it's going pretty well so far!!!

I'm starting this weekend! Most of it I went over at UTA so hopefully it will be a pretty good review :) What time are you going tomorrow?

I'm going in the morning. I have to be at work at 2 so I am planning on knocking it out early! What time are you going?? I am turning in my last papers tomorrow too so I could NOT be more excited about signing up for classes in a few days!!! :yeah:

I do have one question, though, that I would like your opinion on. On the pages where it tells you what readings need to be done before class starts, in the Jarvis book it says to read Ch 8 pg 133. Pg 133 is the title page and has very little information on it. Do you think it means to read Ch 8 or just to read the title pages to get a rough view of what we will be learning in the first few weeks??

Hmmm the book is in my car, but if that's the page the chapter starts on I would say read the whole chapter. For whatever reason they feel the need to tell you what page the chapter is on..... Table of contents are a lost art haha. I'm so excited though!

I'm going in the morning aroun 8, as I'm normally at work at that time. This way I won't have to make up too many hrs in the office. Gotta rake in that money before school makes me poor for two yrs! :)

I'm going to quit surfing the internet on my phone and go to bed now ;)

Only three days left! I got my scrubs, lab coat, and shoes this afternoon. If anyone hasn't gotten theirs yet, there's a good place called Scrubs Etc. on Pennsylvania Avenue right by Harris. They have Cherokee brand white tops and teal pants on discount for about $12.00 each. For the shoes, I highly recommend a brand called Nurse Mates. Very soft, comfortable, and no strings to worry about. They were $51.00 after a $9.00 student discount.

Aaarrg Lizzie I had no idea that the cherokee scrubs were $12! LOL I paid $25 a piece for my tops and I don't remember for the bottoms... that's good info about the nursemates though, because I have been looking for a good, comfy pair of shoes :) How is the reading coming?

Ugghhh!! I knew there was a Scrubs Etc, but thought it had closed down. Oh well. Now I know. I went to Life Uniform and bought two tops for $6 each. They were already on sale, but she gave me an additional 30% off because there was a little make-up where someone had tried them on. It came right out when I washed them. I got my lab coat there as well on sale too. I've been looking for the cargo pants and everyone was out. Ended up getting Dickies draw string pants. I like the fit. I got one pair at their outlet store and the others at a store on Hemphill. All together: 2 tops, 3 pairs of pants, 1 lab coat for $54. I ended up getting New Balance walking shoes. They came with a one year warranty in case the seams come out or anything goes wrong with them. If so, I get a new pair. We'll see how they work out. They cost more than all of my clothes put together, but I'm hoping they are comfortable. We'll see. If not, I'm going for Nurse Mates.

I also bought my steth and already hate it. It's a Sprague and it came with a matching bag and BP cuff. After I see what's what, I'm going to order another, lighter brand. It weighs a ton!! Oh well, you live and you learn!!

Good luck on your first day everyone!! I'm just ready to get going!! :yeah:

To all of you who have been accepted; do you mind sharing your GPA; and classess completed when applying. Did you just apply once?

Ok well I guess I will start! I had a 3.7 overall, and a 3.5 science GPA. I had also taken pharm and patho at another university, and even though we DIDN'T get bonus points, from what I understand they are bringing them back for pharm and medical terminology. I scored in the 98th percentile for the TEAS...don't remember exact score though. I had all of my classes completed (pretty much a must now!) and I only applied this once.

Just focus on your science courses, do well on the TEAS (it really wasn't that hard!) and RELAX! I remember being in your position just several months ago, and now I'm halfway through my first semester and LOVING it! It is harder than any other college experience thus far but DEF doable! I am able to do it while working 25 hrs a week and I have A's and B avgs so far :)

Best of luck to you and let us know if you have any other questions! :nurse:
