Taking science pre-reqs online?

Has anyone taken A&P online? How does the lab go? I am trying to take A&P this summer and I was wondering if the online class would be good for me. I took A&P a long time ago and it was a lecture class. Now I have a child and I teach so I don't want to miss any time away from him.

I think you should do it. I took a biology class (with lab!) online, and it was a great course. We had a website to login and do the labs. Basically the set up just looked like a virtual lab room...complete with closet full of beakers, and all the stuff you needed to do the lab. I feel I learned just as much from this course as I would have in a standard classroom. You do need to spend time and read the book and give yourself time to do the assignments. There was a lot more 'busy' work I felt, as it is harder to do participation assignments online. But they were fun. Some of my classmates did clay models of carbohydrate molecules and took pictures. If you have a busy homelife, you may want to take 3-9 hours a week outside the home to get some major study and assignments done.

That's unusual, I've never even heard of an online A&P class down in my neck of the woods. I have no experience with it so I have no direct advice to offer you, I know I have loved my other non-science classes though. My only thought is to make sure you are able to keep yourself on a strict schedule. A&P classes have a lot of work and studying involved, if you have trouble motivating yourself to study outside of class then you might find the online experience difficult.

I agree. So far, I have taken every co-reqquisites online and lets just say for me its was a rough start. I even had my sis in law doing practically all the work in one because i was far along in my pregnancy and was exhausted and overwhelmed (sleep deprived for 4 months due to severe back/leg pains). still pulled all As but I was never studious by nature so if you are not use to independent learning and self teaching then science may not be the best time to start. in online classes there are both pros and cons....on one hand, you have the leaniancy of doing things by your own schedule, while on the other, you have to strategize more on how to be productive and show proof of participation even more since you are not showing up in a classroom. I prefer the in class setting and by this summer that is what ill be sticking to. lastly, think about what will be the most practical and affordable to you. sometimes you gotta do watcha gotta do to get by, but if doing it online is your preference, try getting at least one or two study buddies as this will help to make online learning less stressful and more similar to in class. After all, this could make or break a gpa.... Best of luck to ya!:thankya:

I agree, Go for it! I enrolled in A&P 2 online(with Lab), and it was a breeze. I feel that if you are self-motivated and willing to committ a few hours each day to read and complete assignments, You should do well. I completed the course with an A of Fall 2011. Good Luck!

Yes! I have taken all my pre-reqs online. It seems to be expensive because not many schools offer some of the lab sciences. I took Chemistry at Massachusetts Institute for the Health Professions (Boston, affiliated with Mass General Hospital - has nursing graduate programs as well as an ABSN). I took A&P 1 and 2 at Northern VA Community College and was able to have all my exams proctored on a website called ProctorU - Online Proctoring : Real People. Real Proctoring. where you pay $7 and you have a proctor watch you take your exam via web cam. It's so convenient and works with my current schedule as a Respiratory Therapist!

I have taken both my A&P 1 and 2 online and I love it but then again I have taken all my classes so far online so I am use to it. There is a misconception that online classes are easier but that is simply not the case (and yes I have taken many traditional classes years ago). I spend more time on the online classes than traditional mainly because you are "teaching" yourself but they are definitely more convenient. I took both mine at Ivy Tech in Indiana. They send you a lab kit and the labs are simulated. I got an A and a B in my A&P classes (not too bad). The tests are what is killer and they are the same tests that the traditional classes use. I would say go for it!!! You just need to stay on task each week and study and you will do fine!

Which Ivy Tech are you at? I'm at the Columbus campus. I've thought about taking A&P 101 over but online--don't know if this is wise for me. One gal said that (I don't know if this is the norm) that a person has one minute per question on a test, with a total of like 20 minutes for all of the questions. I don't like to be pinned down by such a strict time constraint. LOL
