You DO NOT have to have a degree unless they changed that within the last few months. I have been in the program since Oct. in Indiana. I have 17 years work experience in the health field, but I do not have a degree.

This is a question for current WGU students. I start Oct. 1st for the prelicensure program. I just got to look at my degree plan today and I noticed that on my transfer classes there are some that have pre assessments listed and either a performance assessment or objective assessment listed beside it. What is this? Do I have to take yet another test for these classes that I am already done with? I am so confused. I don't talk to my mentor until Monday but I am so curious!

I understand completely. My first time in college was more than a few years ago and I really didn't care much about grades and studying. This time around..........20 years later I have more than made up for my earlier mistakes! I have worked hard to have a good grade point average from Ivy Tech but since then I have decided to transfer to WGU Indiana and my past has come back to haunt me a bit. Some of my classes did transfer from when I was 18 (believe it or not) but it did lower my grade point average. Needless to say I was disappointed. I have chosen to retake a couple of classes to improve my grade. I would check into the nursing school's program thoroughly and make sure you understand what they expect and go from there. It sounds like you are really determined........and that will take you far! Good luck!

I have Bio and Pharm left. For some reason I feel really confident about getting in. I love that there is someone close by that will be going through the same thing. I am 39, work full time, and have a husband and 3 children, so I know about needing the flexibility. When I get a few more posts under my belt then I can send personal messages so we can talk more.

Yes, there is one at Wishard in September but I was just told a few days ago that an August cohort was not happening. I am not sure why, I did not ask. I cannot imagine it is because they didn't have enough people. I would think that they would have their act together a little bit more. I live in Bloomington but would rather do my clinicals at Hancock. For me, the distance would be about the same, but I definitely see where you are coming from. With all that being said I still feel confident that I am making the right choice about choosing WGU. I just wish I knew more about what was going on. I just found out last week that they did not take one of my classes (one that I sent transcripts for at the beginning of June) and now I have no choice but to clep out. Can anyone give me more information about the clinical time with WGU? I have applied for the WGU Indiana Pre-Licensure Nursing Program. The August cohort was canceled but I am going to try for the October. If I am right then that would put me at around March for the clinicals, right? My advisor said the clinicals start 6 months in. Am I also understanding right that the clinicals are then every 3 months? Also, are they at the end of the month, or more specifically, the last two weeks?

Waiting to hear if I get in! I was a little bummed about the 2 1/2 years but it will be well worth it when I am done.

To Pooh1028: I applied last December (2011) and thought I would be ready to start right away but sadly wasn't. I had to complete 2 math classes, an english class, biochemistry, and pharm. I was already a student at Ivy Tech so I signed up quickly for english and finite math and got those done in 8 weeks and then I started statistics through straighterline. I could not find a pharm or biochem class in time. I took my TEAS a couple of weeks ago and I hope to find out in 3 weeks if I am accepted for August cohort. It was a lot of work considering I work fulltime but I guess I had better get use to it. If you take 8 week courses you could get a lot of them done quickly. Check Ivy Tech out! There online classes are great!

Indiana clinicals are at VA hospital, Wishard, and Hancock Regional. I am hoping to be accepted for the August cohort!!

To Pooh1028: I have just finished up my pre reqs and now all I have to do is take the TEAS test. I hope to start in August (lots of prayers please). Anyway, I went online through the American Heart Association for my CPR and got the BLS Heartcode (1st part) done online and just scheduled a skills check off with my local hospital. It was a breeze but then again I have been certified in some form or another for about 16 years now. I say check into it!

Am I missing something? If you go to WGU to get your BSN then why not go for your MSN as well, which means the GPA issue is resolved. I am hoping to do this! With that being said, I do have the say that I have worked hard for my GPA where I am at currently and would be disappointed with a 3.0. Is there anything wrong with the MSN program at WGU?

I have taken both my A&P 1 and 2 online and I love it but then again I have taken all my classes so far online so I am use to it. There is a misconception that online classes are easier but that is simply not the case (and yes I have taken many traditional classes years ago). I spend more time on the online classes than traditional mainly because you are "teaching" yourself but they are definitely more convenient. I took both mine at Ivy Tech in Indiana. They send you a lab kit and the labs are simulated. I got an A and a B in my A&P classes (not too bad). The tests are what is killer and they are the same tests that the traditional classes use. I would say go for it!!! You just need to stay on task each week and study and you will do fine!
