Taking the NLN PAX RN on Friday...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

...and I am so nervous! I'm taking it at Farmingdale State College. I've been studying but I feel like I'm not studying enough even if I study for 5 hours a day. Has anyone taken this test recently? What should I expect? What should I really focus on? I feel pretty confident with the math and the vocabulary but I am FREAKING OUT about the science (physics) part. Any advice?

Good luck!

Most of the science questions aren't that bad. You'll probably think you failed but really, you'll have done fine.

There are more questions on the exam than there are on the practice exams, so make sure you answer them all. Some of the questions will be thrown out because they're experimental questions for developing the exam. You won't know which these are, so trying to guess how you did can be crazy making.

I didn't think I did well but I made a 128. It's a long test, but if you take your time, it isn't so bad.

SuperStar, I got a 129 on the test and just got my acceptance letter today!! I wish you all the best of luck! I thought the test was TOUGH. A few of the math questions I had to guess because I ran out of time but apparently I did something well :)

Thank you soooo much!!! I am so excited :) :)

The key is to relax!

I was terrified of the science portion, and ended up getting a composite score of 149. Needless to say, I was quite surprised! I don't find out if I got in to the program until mid-June :(

Best of luck!

Emdee511,

I am set to take the next on Saturday. I am studying the guide ( Macdonald). This is a second career for me and a long return back to school. Although I have done many of my pre-reqs, I am wondering what is really difficult on the NLN. I need to get a score like yours to get into my program. It's very competitive here. Any advice ?

or anyone else, who just took the test.

Thanks in advance.

Also I will be taking the computer version if anyone has any input on that. I've heard that you get your score right there at the end. Has anyone had any experience with the computer version ?

This is my 2nd career too (I'll be 37 in 2 weeks). I hadn't been to school in 18 years when I returned to college. Here's my advice:

verbal- you know what you know. It's difficult to "study" for this part.

math- know your ratios, parctice basic algebra, some minor geometry and decimals (easy)

science- heavy physics, a good mix of A&P, earth science, chem

It's competitive pretty much everywhere. Relax, and do your best. Don't allow anything to destract you. I was honestly shocked to see my score. Apply to several programs if they are available to you.

Also I will be taking the computer version if anyone has any input on that. I've heard that you get your score right there at the end. Has anyone had any experience with the computer version ?

The computer version has 60 verbal/80 math/60 science. 20 of each will not count, but you won't know which ones. There were 25 physics questions in the science section. I know NOTHING about physics, and still did well in that area, so I'm assuming many of them don't count. Don't quote me on that. I may have made lucky guesses.

You will be able to go back and review any question you want (in that section) until your time is up. You can "mark" questions along the way that you want to go back to.

You have 1 hour for each section, and you will get a 5 minute break between each.

You will get your results immediately after the entire test is completed. That's the worst part! There's a window which reads "downloading file" that takes a minute to open...my heart was pounding!

Best of luck to you all.
