Taking NCLEX for first time!!

Published

I am taking my NCLEX tomorrow. While I am trying to stay calm, I can tell my nerves are overwhelming me! I just graduated end of December from Anoka-Ramsey Community college, and began studying beginning of January.

I have used a variety of NCLEX books to work my way through content. LOVE Saunders!! I would have loved to take Kaplan or Hurst, but I didn't have the money.

Any advice going forward? Any suggestions on how to relax or how you prepared the morning of?

I got some news...

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!

I felt so rough walking out that I was sure I failed. But I am officially am RN!!

thanks for the encouragement everyone!!!

CONGRATS!!!

I left the testing center at 1315 yesterday after testing for 1.5 hours. Nothing yet for me.

YAY! So happy for you! I was about to say though, getting a lot of SATA means that you are answering harder questions above the baseline! That's a good sign. I have also heard that if you walk out feeling confident and got a lot of easy questions.... you should be worried. But I am so glad to hear that you passed boards! Do you have a position yet? :)

Christina-I looked on the MN board of nursing and it was up there before Pearson had the results. You could try looking there.

i had heard that how many SATA answers didn't correlate with how difficult it was, but I'm not sure. I am currently still job searching but hoping something will come up soon. I would LOVE pediatrics. Ultimately I want to be in ICU. Someday, maybe be a flight nurse

Can you tell us more about how you prepared? I'm taking my test mid Feb and I just started using Saunders and I love it. I also have access to Kaplan but don't like their content as much. Did u only read Saunders ?thank You and congrats !!!!

I was checking the NV BON website every 30 seconds for 23 hours like a crazy person. My temp RN license finally posted shortly after noon today, less than 24 hours after I waked out of Pearson. I'm an RN!!!! Yay!!!

I too want to work in ICU. Hopefully one day soon we will both get our wishes! I will start the job hunt tomorrow. Tonight I will celebrate!!!

My 2 main resources were Saunders and Lippincott. I started studying out of lippincott primarily because my professors were taking some questions from there. I then started to primarily use Sauders. They are both good materials. Saunders has the overview of the disorders and nursing interventions/considerations, but I felt like I learned a lot from lippincott.

I wish I could say I had my study schedule all planned out and executed perfectly, but I didn't. I went through a lot of OB and Psych because I knew it had been a while since I had reviewed.

For Pharmacology, I loved Mosby's Pharm memory notecards. It was good review and since I am a visual learner, it helped.

There was another resource I got off Amazon. It is "The RN course book". It had a lot of good information to review. I got everything on the kindle, so I went a little nuts on NCLEX resources because I get them instantly.

Oh, I also found this awesome review chart off youtube. She has the video and a link to download the NCLEX review charts. I loved it! Here's the link

Really hope this helps you out. Praying for you!! Let me know how it goes!

Thank you so much for your reply. I actually looked at YouTube yesterday and found her video and immediately downloaded her notes which are awesome to look at on spare time. I'm glad I found her. And I've been using Saunders but feel like I'm not going to be able to read the whole book (I work full time so I study at night and I have to write notes to remember stuff so its taking a long time to go from chapter to chapter) but I started watching Hurst videos also.

I feel like I have too many resources as well lol but I'm trying to focus. Thanks for your prayers. I'll let u guys know when I take it and the results ;)
