Taking Information Literacy elsewhere?

Published

I saw the cost for it at EC is $300 plus the cost of texts.. I wonder what the requirements are to take a similar class elsewhere like a local community college. Anyone else do this? It seems to be cheaper to do it online at my cc than through EC.. hmmm....

Be careful -- any replacement class has to cover EVERY SINGLE THING on EC's Info Lit syllabus. I'd get a copy of any other school's syllabus and get EC approval in writing before taking it. I haven't heard of anyone finding a less expensive substitute for Info Lit. :(

Wow. I took Introduction to computer Applications for 1 credit in college and was hoping EC would accept it. I will just have to cross my fingers and see!

It's more than just computer stuff -- it has to do with research, copyright, legal/ethical uses of information, that kind of thing.

Good info, Lunah. I just went through EC for their course. Had already taken a course at local college and EC did not accept it. Sometimes it is wiser to just " grin and bear it ". I took my computer course 3 years ago, before I knew about the info literacy course with EC. But I was still disappointed they did not accept it.:( Better to ask and find out if courses can be substituted. Might save :twocents: in the end.:D

I'm a programmer and have a diploma from The Chubb Institute. I still had to take it.

WOW! Even with a diploma?! I thought them not taking my class was unfair.:o

Thanks.. I'll have to call next week because I qualify for financial aid and can use it elsewhere just not at EC :-/

I dread this class and IMO I feel like this is a true money maker for the school. I feel its their way of getting $300 out of you as opposed to saying the enrollment fee is $1200. I would rather pay $1200 than taking it.

i took it about 4 months ago... it took me about 4 hours to take it....not a big deal at all. but the cost ****** me off.. no text book involved.

Akanini: They didn't accept mine! Mine was a 3 college intro to computers something or other.. They did apply it to my elective credits.
