haha that would be awesome. I like that idea... it's very hard to explain to non-nurses how tiring and frustrating nursing can be sometimes. my family always say "oh but it's like that at any job!" , yes I know every job can be frustrating but it's just different. who's with me?

Weeelll...yes, I suppose it would clear up a few misconceptions. However, I think it'd have to be a reciprocal agreement! I did work with my husband for several years before going back to school, so I know what his job demands, how stressful it can be, and when the good and bad times of the year happen to be. That knowledge has come in handy on many occasions. I know when he's blowing smoke and when he's honestly up to his frontal bone in work.

This is hilarious, because I went to work with my boyfriend last week. He calibrates methane wells and let me tell you his job SUCKS!!! I have a whole new respect for him now. He makes good money and started this job while I went through nursing school. He hates his job so much, and now I know why.

On the flip side I said I wished he could go to work with me however I really doubt patients would be cool with him coming in with me while doing assessments, finding fundus', checking bleeding, nipples, breastfeeding etc....

Don't you wish there was a day such as "Take your spouse to work day" - or maybe there is one? Sometimes I get so mad at my hubby for not understanding how tired I am after work - in his understanding and- it is only from watching movies, where you see the nursing staff on the unit seatting, drinking coffe and holding babies with huge smiles on the face - my job is a piece of cake and I should be able to come home and go to the gym, cook, spend time with kids and him - venting now! I wish there was a way for them to see one day at our job. I am just wishfull thinking right now, and I'm sure I'm not alone here..... .

LOL! I get this from my husband too! And guess what! My husband is also a nurse!

Lol! I think that would be a great idea! I think my hubby needs a serious smack in the head for him to realize how tiring my work is and how burnt out I am at the end of my 8hr shift.

I would love a take your spouse to work day!! I work 12 hour nightshifts and I go to bed within an hour of getting home in the morning. For 8 years my husband has complained that me going to bed that quick after I get home is the equivalent of him going to bed at 6pm after he gets home from work. No matter what I say, he just doesn't get it!! I would LOVE to drag his exhausted a** around and see patients at 4am!! LOL

I would love for my hubby to work a 12-hour night shift in the ER with me... only problem is that he's a Corrections Officer and I definitely wouldn't want to shadow him for a day! :)

Agreed! My husband is a computer programmer and comes home at the end of his 8 hour day and tells me how tired he is. I get off a 12 hour night shift and am bouncing off the walls with excitement. In part I'd like him to see how hard I work and that my job even though I enjoy it is hard. But also I'd really like him to be able to see the respect I get from my co-workers and patients and see that I can put "my girl panties on and deal with it" at work so he understands why sometimes I just don't want to at home. Overall I really love what I do and would love to be able to share that with him. Pretty sure he'd run the first time someone tried to throw up on him though.
