Sweeping second hand watch?

Does it really have to continuously move around. I thought I finally found one on amazon. In the description, it claimed sweeping second hand, but it looks like it ticks to me. I don't remember that last time I saw a watch like the one is required. Unless, I'm misunderstanding. Can anyone shed some light?

TIA!

Continuous movement or ticking, it doesn't really matter. I have always used a digital watch and haven't had any prolems.

Good luck with school.

In my experience, the schools don't mean a true sweeping second hand, they just mean any watch with a second hand, and not a digital watch.

I thought Rolex was the only watch that truly had a sweeping second hand.

Then all the students need to buy Rolexes. :Emoticon-Devil:

A watch with a sweeping second hand is known as an "Automatic" watch. On the other hand, watches that tick have "Quartz" movements. Watches with automatic movements do not have traditional replaceable batteries and are charged by winding (either by hand or by movement - shaking). Automatic watches tend to be more expensive as their mechanisms are much more complicated and tend not to be as accurate time keepers as their quartz counterparts, however true watch enthusiasts prefer automatic watches as they have more "soul".

FYI I like and collect watches

i had a battery operated watch with a sweep second hand, unfortunately for me it is at the bottom of a lake in NH..... i don't believe they are made any more.

Do a search for "nurses watch" on Amazon and you'll turn up a zillion "fob" watch options - they pin on to your chest. Super inexpensive & they don't pose an infection control risk. Most of them consist of a watch face that just slips in to a rubber case. Available in lots of colors. All of them have second hands.
