I see in the news that anti-choice organizations are planning demonstrations today at Planned Parenthood facilities around the US to support GOP plans to defund PP.
Of course, my first thought was to grab a sign (and my, ummm, "kittyhat"!) and head for my local facility to show my support for PP, but I also see in the news that PP offices are asking that supporters not show up at the facilities to counter-protest (because they don't want the crowds of protesters any larger or more chaotic than necessary as women are trying to get in and out for services).
Some communities are planning counter-demonstrations in other venues, but I haven't been able to find any information about any events planned in my city.
So, I've decided to set aside the time planned for the anti-choice demonstration in my city today to contact all my elected representatives, from the White House down to my state legislators, and Tom Price at DHHS, to remind them that I support PP and am strongly opposed to any efforts to restrict women's reproductive rights or Planned Parenthood's access to public healthcare dollars as a legitimate healthcare provider.
I hope PP supporters here will consider doing the same, and spread the word to people you know. I hope people all over the country will have the same thought. Wouldn't it be great if, while comparatively small groups of protesters are standing out in the cold and snow with their signs, huge numbers of Americans were flooding mail boxes and switchboards around the country with messages of support for PP, women's health, and reproductive rights?
You're totally missing my point. My comment about religion is about people who seek to change the laws or shame women that have had abortions based on their religious beliefs. Not about the women who choose not to have one - that's their choice and I fully support it. And I do know that there are plenty of options for support for those women. And please don't put words into my mouth. I never said nor implied that foster kids are "better off dead". I've shown you respect in our conversation, and if you can't show me some in return, this conversation is over.
i don't think he/she gets the concept of respect, except when demanding it for his/her self.
It will never end. as it should not. it was legal in most USA colonies, and was made illegal in an effort to control women, especially when the women's movement started to heat up. and yes, it is exclusively the woman's choice. if a woman is pregnant, or not, is none of your business.
Slavery was legal too; just because something is legal doesn't make it the right thing to do. The only people arguing to continue to be able to slaughter innocent children are those who were born. Equal rights for all means all should be allowed to be born.

whether a woman, other than your wife, is pregnant, is NONE. OF. YOUR. BUSINESS. that is all you need to know.

Whether or not a fetus is an "innocent child" with rights is a matter of personal opinion and belief about which many people disagree. If you're opposed to abortion, you are welcome to not have one, or to persuade or forbid women directly connected to you (wife, daughters, etc.) not to have one. Otherwise, none of your business.

I really hate when people use emotionally charged, hateful words when trying to debate a topic. There's no need for it, and it takes away any credibility that your argument may have.
Consider this: someone dies. Their organs could save 3 people. But they aren't organ donors, so we allow them - even dead - to have bodily autonomy. We wouldn't dream of going against the wishes of a person - dead or alive - for their organs. It's immoral and unethical. No one can be forced to donate blood, tissue or organs. Living or dead.
But you expect a living, breathing person to have less bodily autonomy than a corpse. Because she's pregnant.
Where's the logic in this? I'm genuinely curious.
ABORTION IS LEGAL. I'm so tired of people ringing their hands over a perfectly legal, acceptable, necessary medical procedure because it makes them uncomfortable! It doesn't matter how it makes you feel. It literally only matters to the person having the abortion, her healthcare provider and whomever she chooses to involve. This would be like Jehovah's Witnesses trying to make blood transfusions illegal because they disagree with them. It's asinine.
And something being a small part of the overall service of an entity does not make it insignificant.
It kind of matters to the baby, Jen. Not to mention Dad.
That saline scalds something fierce!
That knife is cutting me into shreds! There's nowhere I can go to get away from it!
That suction is tearing me limb from limb!
Someone is stabbing me in the back of my neck!
I am in a trash can. My heart is still beating, my lungs are still breathing. Someone is cutting me up and I hear them talking about selling my body parts! Oh, God, take me home quickly. Please end this unbearable pain of my tiny (or 10 pound) body and of my little soul. Take me home and hold me in Your arms, take away the memory of this torture. I don't want to be a bother to anyone. I just want this pain to end. Take me where I will be loved, give me my new pain-free body. Love me.
I actually believe there is a time for abortion, but not the way I have seen it used - as birth control. One 16 year old patient was on her 3rd abortion. That is simply wrong - for society, for the babies, and for her.
I agree we should all be free and have our privacy as much as possible, but there are limits. And something like taking the life of our unborn babies involves our society.
We need to work toward healing those who have had abortions, for they are scarred, even though they might not realize it or accept it just yet. It was a terribly difficult decision for many of the mothers to make. For others, it was probably no weightier a decision than choosing what clothes to wear today. All need our lovingkindness and we need them as well.
We need to mourn the lost babies, those precious little ones who will never walk among us or be able to contribute to the world we live in. I thank God almighty that they are safely and happily free and whole in Heaven with Him.
We need to help those who are facing an unwanted pregnancy. We need to reach out a hand of friendship and fellowship and assist them in every way we possibly can to have a healthy baby. We must help them with adoptions or single parenthood if they choose it. It does take a village and we can all do something to help these precious moms and babies/children.
Just my opinion.
The single most effective way to reduce the number of abortions is access to safe and affordable contraception. PP provides that and has been doing so for a century.Pro-life people like OC understand that. Forced pregnancy people don't care because the "real" issue is control of women's sexual behavior and has nothing to do with reverence for life.
I respectfully disagree that controlling women is the real impetus behind opposition to AB's everywhere, any time, any place, any stage of pregnancy.
Some of us really do revere life because we believe God made life. I do believe in contraception and good sense to not try to repopulate the whole earth. Contraception should absolutely be legal and available for every woman and man who wants it. Sex education, too.

I honestly don't know how to respond to this. You paint a vivid picture of something you cannot possibly know the reality of. You are using language to manipulate people in order to further your agenda. It's despicable. I often find when people are unable to make a logical arguments, they make emotional ones.
You offer an anecdote. Yes, some women do get repeat abortions. So what? I'll reiterate that abortion is a legal, acceptable procedure that is there for women who need it.
I could not give a sh*t less about the father, either. I know that's very un PC of me, but men shouldn't be having sex with a women until they've had discussions about pregnancy and what options will be on the table if something were to happen. If you're sleeping with someone who believes in abortion, and you don't - that's on you.
The fact is, I don't care about your religion, your god or your heaven. What I do to my body is my choice. You don't get to have an opinion about it. Period. You can judge me however you like, but it matters not - not only in a personal sense, but in a legal sense as well.
I agree women need support when faced with an unwanted pregnancy and should be made aware of all options available to her. But that's where I step out and allow a woman total bodily autonomy, because I certainly don't have a right to choose anything on her behalf. Nor do I have the right to remind her to "mourn" her embryo. That's asinine.
As far as abortion being control over women, I cannot disagree more. Especially considering the new restrictions on birth control. We're not supposed to have abortions, or we're horrible people. We are no longer legally allowed to have abortions after 20 weeks, and now our employers get to make decisions about our hormonal birth control. I don't know how these actions can be taken as anything other than controlling women.

the bible does not discuss abortion, never mind negatively. and it did exist in those times.

And you'd think, if it was so gosh-darn important, that Jesus would have said something about it at some point. At least mentioned it. Y'know, "By the way, before I forget, terminating pregnancies is bad." Something like that ...

The Bible does not discuss bombs made from fertilizer, the use of airplanes as weapons of mass destruction or gas chambers, either.
We are taught "Thou shalt not kill..."
I'll agree to disagree, but have no doubt that the aforementioned Commandment refers to the willful destruction of innocent life, regardless of the means.
