She is the nurse who returned from Africa and was placed in quarantine despite not being sick. I'm not going to give all the details here, they are readily available online. I support her position and hope you do too. She is not sick, she should not be quarentined.
Yes I have read this whole thread. Each and every post :) I amstill not satisfied with your reponse. On what date was antigen testing performed on Kaci? Was it PCR or ELISA? You know the WHO recently approved rapid antigen testing for ebola. Its already come under scrutiny for accuracy and reliability. Is one neg result really neg? When we lose our ability to question things we are no longer human!
Ebola blood testing has not shown to be accurate unless the person is symptomatic. People have also not been shown to be able to transmit ebola until they are symptomatic.
It doesn't matter how much you argue for mandatory quarantine for asymptomatic people exposed to ebola patients the science does not support it.
Lol ok smart ass! The CDC link is talking about antibodies. I'm talking about antigen testing. Testing for the actual virus before antibodies are even produced. Maybe you should look up more info before you comment. Geeeezzzz!
Actually as the above quote shows it was referring to antigen testing too.
@Tiffy absolutely! That's the beauty of this country. The state can imprison us but we always have the right to defend ourself. The key tho is we have to prove with overwhelming evidence that we are not risk to the public. Kinda hard to prove. I'm not saying we should lock up everyone with a communicable disease. But look if you go to a hot zone area. Dont ***** and complain about being quarantined. You have to look at the bigger picture and put everything into perspective. I dont agree with how they treated her. And I feep that they absolutely violated her right to due process. But she was just being a brat about it! There's two side to every story. That's what lawyers are for! They represent you and defend your side! I really wish her case would pan out. This really could have set precedent.

The case did pan out. There was shown not to be a legal or scientific reason to require mandatory quarantine of asymptomatic HCWs who took care of ebola patients.
Why don't you actually try to present some peer-reviewed scientific research to show that there should be mandatory quarantines for these HCWs?
The CDC and WHO disagree that there should be and those decisions were made based on scientific evidence that is clearly referenced on their websites, but all you have done on here so far is try to insult people and rant about how there should be a mandatory quarantine for HCWs that take of ebola patients in other countries.
I didnt see that anywhere in that link. I clicked on that table but I couldn't view it. Is it saying that ELISA testing only pos after symptoms start? See I've stopped looking at the CDC website. I use other sources. After the head of cdc threw nurses under the bus and claimed a thin plastic gown is suitable for ebola protection I've just toned them out!
The judge overturned the mandatory quarantine but she still had to self monitor. I will post links to articles. None of them will say mandatory quarantines are warranted. But I think they will open up the discussion. Why dont you post articles that support your case? Most everything on this thread is very generalized paraphrased. I would like to see those articles.
My issues have always been mode of transmission, and when is it transmitted. This article found ebola in breast milk and semen even after it has been cleared from the blood. But the study is flawed as the ebola outbreaks are in africa which is third world. If you read journal articles about ebola you will find alot of them are flawed in some way. Just because it is so hard to research it in a third world place during a devastating outbreak. Which is why I previously commented that the science is weak. Its hard to get accurate results in africa.
Let's see. It has 5 months and neither Kaci nor anyone in contact with her has gotten Ebola.
I think obviously that means that proves she was not an Ebola stricken HCW randomly spreading disease.
I has provided healthcare in Africa, in areas that at times had Ebola outbreaks, along with Marburg and all sorts of awful highly fatal illnesses, not to mention the dangers of land mines, and the Lord's Resistance Army, that tortures children, murders adults, and rapes little girls and teenagers, forcing them to marry their captors, who loan then to friends and desert them when they invariably develop AIDs. I cared for some of these women and children, with limited availability to PPE that we take for granted.
For the last 40 years, groups like WHO, MSF, CDC, and others have cared for populations infected with Ebola, Marburg and the other Hemmorhagic diseases in Africa and other locales. THOUSANDS!!!!!! of these workers over 4 decades of service have gone back and forth between their First World work jobs and families, without spreading these diseases randomly among the population, using the precautions that Ms. Hickox advocated and was trained in. I trust their proven expertise over Chris Christie's knee jerk proclamations and actions.
If the law is wrong, then I have no problem breaking it, and not giving a fig about it.
Heck, I am looking forward to writing the words, Climate Change all over any legal paperwork for the state of Florida and just see what their moron of a governor does about the ban on using those words.
And then some moron decides that for no good reason at all, she belongs in a frigid unheated tent, with no standard plumbing. A situation that was completely unhygienic and probably would have led to other illness and fevers, even though Ebola negative. We won't even get into the fact that if CC wanted to executive order this isolation, some reasonable arrangements and training of staff for implementation of was required but obviously not done. His extremely poor treatment of her, and his lies to the press, give proof that CC is pretty incompetent when it comes to health care issues.
