SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN Program 2014-2015

Published

Hey Everyone!

I figured I should start a new thread for the upcoming round of decisions. How are you all feeling? What are your backgrounds? Have you applied to other schools? My application is in the review progress, so my fingers are crossed and hopes are high!

Looking forward to the conversation :)

Lauren

Mine also. Anyone heard of anything yet?

Hi everyone. I wish everyone luck! I am really hoping to get into the program this year as well. I think I have a pretty good shot but this waiting is killing me! I have all of my pre-recs finished but I am waiting on my official bachelors degree which is going to take another week or two. I am thinking this is holding up my application even though I called and they told me it wouldnt. My application status is still on "Screening in Review" which I assume is the first step in the process since some of you have gotten "faculty review completed". I handed in my application on January 8th so I am hoping that is why is has not moved along.

Did you just graduate nicole616? If yes, congratulations... From what school are you coming from nicole616?

Im asking because, I was informed that suny downstate have articulation agreement with certain schools... Brooklyn college for example, if you complete their health science program regardless of any major completed with GPA of 3.3, you are automatically accepted, given that your TEAS score meets the 75% min of course. Maybe your school is one of the several they have an agreement with.

;-)

Thanks cf415! Yes I just graduated in January, not from any Brooklyn schools though. I actually finished up my bachelors in order to apply for this program. I wish I had went to one of the schools with the articulation agreement because that would be great to be automatically accepted. My prerequisite GPA is 3.89 and my overall GPA including every school I have ever attended is a 3.68. The only thing I am worried about is my test score for math... lets just say it was above the 75 but not that far above (Given the time limit I started to panic). My English however was a 98%. I am hoping they look at everything and do not just focus on the scores.

I think you have a really good chance at getting in, Nicole616, especially with such a high GPA. From the few people I know who got it, most had high GPAs and so-so to good TEAS. One person I know only scored a 78% on the math.

Wow Nicole616! I don't think you would have anything to worry about. You should start looking into dorms/rentals. What about healthcare/volunteer experience? It probably may not be as important as having outstanding academic credentials such as yours, but I think having that will give you further advantage. Poor me :-( lol

I wish you all the best. If I happen to get lucky, save me a seat next to you, hopefully, i'd be able to pick up few pointers from you on how to effectively study! ;-)

Thanks for replying. I have to take an online sociology course, since they are not accepting the one from clep. So I have registered with an online University to complete the requirement.

hopefully i can start the 2015-2016 thread I am applying this fall for next year and I hope all of you get in because it seems like you guys are all dedicated and please guys when you get in share some pointers on studying, what methods you guys use and what works, time management, stress management. I would really like to get into this program but it is so competitive to get in, but i know for sure that alot of people who get wait listed end up getting in even last minute good luck to all.

i also heard that if you can take pharmacology, pathophysiology, or a research methods class then you may be able to get exempt and make the course load easier, but almost no school offers it if your not a nursing student but if your a psych major maybe you can

use experimental psych which requires research, research methods, and like 5 15 page papers to become exempt or many cuny's allow you to take pathophysiology as well but it is hard to get into those classes since priority is given to nursing students already in the designated program in their school or students who attend that college but it does not hurt to try. I guess this would probably help students applying for 2015 SUNY ABSN

Thanks cf415. I have healthcare experience as I have been an LPN since 2010. I am really just concerned about my TEAS score, if they base their acceptance on it then I may not have a shot. Tacokrunch, there is a school by me that offers pathophysiology in may for 3 weeks but the cost is ridiculous. I thought of taking it so that I would have a lighter load (If i get in) but I would rather save money! Its only a six week class at downstate which ends up being 5 classes and a final so I am hoping it is not too bad.

njeri68.. who told you they aren't accepting it.. they are so long as you pass the exam with a 50, which is equivalent to a "C". If you need help, let me know, I have everything you will need to pass the test. I studied for a week and passed it.

I took patthophysiology in a CUNY and I am not a nursing student. You just have to go in into the nursing dept and request for permission. It will save you a lot of money that way.
