SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN Program 2014-2015

Hey Everyone!

I figured I should start a new thread for the upcoming round of decisions. How are you all feeling? What are your backgrounds? Have you applied to other schools? My application is in the review progress, so my fingers are crossed and hopes are high!

Looking forward to the conversation :)

Lauren

Hi all, my cumulative, prereq and science GPA all hover around 3.75, TEAS English 85/Math 100. I have close to a decade of research/pharmaceutical drug development experience (no volunteer) and I have BS/MS degrees. Job market sucks in pharma hence my career move.

Hey, when were your apps due, because I'm applying for RN-BSN program, and my app still says "screening in process."

Some more about me: I have a BA in Psychology from Brooklyn College. I graduated in 2012 after many years off and on with time in Music Industry (Boston) and Music Education (Brooklyn). I've been working as a sex educator/purchasing associate at an awesome, women-owned sex toy store for the last 6 years which has definitely given me a ton of people skills/customer service experience. Aside from volunteering at a hospital for the last year, I've also volunteered with an herbal apothecary, an archive, and helped to organize a yearly protest march for years.

Pmercado, did you graduate from Brooklyn college as well? I am wondering if this first round was for brooklyn college alumni.

@Nicole616 No, I went to Hunter and Hopkins.

@LaurenBear, @Draf77, @pmercado- congrats!!! I also received an acceptance email on Wednesday! Where are you guys commuting from? I currently live in Manhattan but would really like to move to Brooklyn or Queens (Astoria) before the program starts. I am not familiar with the neighborhoods around downstate so I really don't know where to start looking.

I live in Flatbush - really close to school.

I live in bensonhurst. Couple miles (2 busses) from the school

Congratulations to you as well @Alhirsch! I am currently in Suffolk county (~a little less than 1hr on the LIRR to Atlantic) and will plan to commute daily unless it becomes too unbearable. I envy you guys for living relatively close to school.

Thanks for your responses. Excited to meet you all!

Many congratulations to all of you who got in!!!! You must all be so excited!!! Fingers crossed that I get to join you guys.

Laurenbear, quick question. Your sex educator/purchasing associate experience sounds really interesting. Are you by any chance considering pursuing a midwifery or women's health specialty? Whatever you wind up choosing as your specialty, I'm sure you'll make good use of the skills you developed in that position.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to check to see if anyone else is still in faculty screener status... or am I the only person =(
