SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University ABSN 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I haven't seen any thread for the SUNY Downstate ABSN program for the Fall 2024 start so I thought so here's one for anyone applying/attending/etc!

I have taken the TEAS four times already but failed to get an 80 in reading. I got above 80 in the other subjects. Will my application be discarded if I didn't get the 80 in reading?

This was my exact question. I had a 77% and I can't take it again until the next application cycle. I was told it is possible Admissions won't send my application to Nursing. I had to be realistic. I started looking at other programs after I heard that because I previously placed all my eggs in one basket (relying on an acceptance from SUNY). My goal is to become a Nurse. I would love to attain this dream by attending Downstate, but you too might have to consider another program or programs. I'm looking into PSON Mount Sinai. They have a deadline of 4/1/24. You might need to take more courses (Ethics and Nutrition via Portage). They have an information session 3/5/24.

All the best

Hi all,

Does anyone know if official transcripts need to be sent in before the application deadline? Or do they only want them sent after you've been accepted? I'm trying to figure out if I should send them in via Parchment today.

Thanks!

Thanks!

You can send in the unofficial transcripts for now because it cost nothing to. Then when accepted, they will ask for the official one.

I got an interview invitation today and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about what the interviews are like / what kinds of questions they will be asking.  Any help would be appreciated.

How long after the interview did you guys hear back? I had my interview about 2 days ago and have not heard back.

Hey everyone! My application was forwarded on 1/24 and I just heard back for an interview yesterday. I was just accepted today so if you have been waiting for a while don't worry!

That is wonderful. I applied for another program after Downstate Deadline and heard back within 2 weeks. I'm guessing Downstate has a really competitive pool this year. I still haven't received a response. My application was submitted 1/30/24 (rather updated with a new TEAS score as the original application was submitted 10/2023).

Hello everyone. Good luck on your application journey! I am currently a student with Downstate and would love to help you guys out with any questions. I will do my best to answer! For the applicants that are accepted, I recommend making a facebook page( the only group that all nurses allow) to connect with one another.

Good Luck to everyone ! since you're in the program what's a good TEAS score to have that got you and/or your class mates in ?

Hi! Does anyone know what the programs class schedule is like?

Hi we are only on campus once a week so for the first semester I think if you're willing to put up with the commute time- then no need to move! I know the commute is a pain but it will save more money than moving down to Brooklyn. Especially due to everything being online, I don't think it's necessary. It might even be cheaper to rent a cheap hotel in the city or Brooklyn the night before and take the train over. The second semester you can pick different sites. We had montefiore this semester and a few city sites as well. You will enroll for Spring semester around thanksgiving usually, and decide if you need to move to Brooklyn for the Spring.

Hi again, Cindy! I know it's been a while, but I am about to sign an apartment lease in the Coney Island area and am very curious about class schedules in the second, third, and fourth semesters... My commute would be over an hour. I am working full time and trying to figure my schedule and living situation out! Thanks again in advance.

Any more recent acceptances lately? I've been dying to hear back from the program and another program that I was accepted to starts now but I am on the edge of my seat for this one!
