Suny downstate absn 2018-2019

Published

Hello Everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for the 2018-2019 program at downstate? Hoping we can all loop each other in on the status.

I have two pre-reqs left to complete in the spring 2018, microbio and a archaeology course. I went over my transcript with the admissions counselor and everything was in tip top shape!

Answering a question above,

you are invited to interview if you accumulate at least 12 out of 24 available points offered based off of evaluations, gpa, teas etc.

I'm not sure the ratio but if you get at least 12 points you will be invited to interview!

You are a goldmine of knowledge! Thanks so much!

my application still says: screening in process , (anyone know what this means)?

Thank you!! Great info. When did you submit your application? Not sure if you answered that already.

Also, not 100% sure but I think it means someone is currently reviewing your application in Admissions.

I submitted around 11/15, prior to Thanksgiving. Hopefully, I get a phone call soon for interviews! I'm applying to PA school as well so the sooner I know my decision the better.

No problem, we're all in the same boat!

Do you have any idea what other points might contribute to those 24? I'm clearly overthinking it, but I'd love to know how competitive I might be.

Same!

I was surprised I got my interview, as my GPA nor TEAs weren't really on the competitive side. I feel like my personal statement, experience, and LOR's really helped me.

Just praying this is a good sign because Downstate is my dream school!

Besides recommendations, gpa, and teas; they will look at your experience/interaction with the health field i.e. have you worked directly with patients? volunteered in a hospital? Additionally, your essay also plays a big role! It speaks for you as a person, since you're not with them while they're reviewing your application. Another thing that the director told the info session was that they want to see upward trends in your grades (if your gpa was low at first) and for you to be especially strong in your sciences (B or above in pre reqs).

For those of you who have scheduled interviews, when are you going?

Hi All!

Congrats to those who got an interview. I just got scheduled for 12/15. Would anyone know what kind of questions they ask? I did a group interview for Pace, but I'm wondering how different it will be. I hate going in without any research. As for my pre-reqs, they are a little out of their norm, so anyone questioning their application, DONT! I graduated from Stony Brook 2014 with a 3.4 GPA; mostly A's some B's for my pre-reqs. Due to their time limit, I am retaking chem and psych (it doesn't fit Downstates curriculum). I actually didn't do so well on the TEAS. But i do have a lot of patient experience in the psych field. I think my essay and recommendation letters are strong.

CONgrats on your interview when did you apply if you don't mind me asking

Mid August, if you are asking me lol.
