SUNY Downstate ABSN 2017-2018

Published

Hi there!

Haven't seen any forums yet on the SUNY Downstate ABSN 2017-2018 class. Has anyone applied?? Or heard from them already?

Hey BkAlex! My name is Jennifer and I was accepted for this years ABSN cohort! I would like to chat with you about the program but cannot send PM's :( Any way I could email you? My email is [email protected]

I'm still waiting on the wait list for Suny Downstate -- anybody else? any hope out there?

Has anybody have the luck to be accepted from the wait list?

Hey hey! I just got a call from SUNY Downstate - and I'm off the wait list and in the program. They called one week before the program starts. I'll see ya at Orientation!

Hey guys!

I am planning to apply for the 2018-2019 cycle. I just received my A&P 1 grade and it was a B+. I work full-time and take on part-time gigs too, and honestly, I should've prioritized school more and secured an A. But I was wondering, As long as I get A's in A&P 2 and Microbiology, as well as doing well on the TEAS, do I still have a good chance with SUNY Downstate? Should I retake A&P 1?

Thanks!

Hi guys and gals

I was hoping for some info on Suny Downstates admissions process... I submitted by application for the 2018-2019 program I was hoping someone would have incite to when i should hear from downstate.

Based on their response to my email, we should expect to hear 6-8 weeks after application sent to admissions committee for review.

Hey I'm in the class of '17-'18. They started sending out letters late Nov/Early Dec. Don't get discouraged, there were several ppl who waited and got letters a month or 2 later, as well as getting waitlisted or even denied, only to be accepted at a later date.

@Encoremb if you dont mind me asking what is the summer schedule look like?

Hey,

You should be fine. as long as you maintain your GPA above a 3.5 you should have no problem

Summer is pretty intensive. Without having a real confirmation that the school would accept it, I took the plunge and took patho the last semester before the nursing program started. Thankfully they accepted my class; I and a handful of others saved ourselves from needing to to take path while taking pharm and other classes. They pack it in the first summer. In a short 12 week summer semester (part A and B), we had the following classes that one must take:

health assessment-3cr

health promotion-4cr

path-3cr

pharm-3cr

OB/Gyn-4cr

prof nursing dev.-2cr

principles of teaching and learning-2cr

So thats a total of 21 credits in a really short amount of time. very doable, But I highly recommend taking any classes before that they will accept.

It really eases up from fall moving forward with 12 clinical hr weekly shift being either a 2 day shift(i.e. 8 hrs thurs, 4hrs fri) or a 12 hour shift, and only 1 class day with 5hrs. the other 2 (2cr) classes this semester are online.

It's extremely doable; getting in is the hard part, so do as well as u can on TEAS and pre-reqs.

feel free to pm with any questions.

Good luck!

@Encoremb Thanks for the intel. Unfortunately allnurses would not allow me to pm you. I am nervous, by GPA isnt fantastic my bachelors just meets the 3.0 requirement but my pre-req is around 3.6

as another user stated it "should" take about 6-8 weeks. For now it is a waiting game. longest 3 months ever!
