Summer 2020 Piedmont RN Residency

U.S.A. Georgia

When will the application open? Who’s applying?

Do all of you ladies have experience in a hospital setting? I applied to piedmont, Northside, and cartersville. So far only cartersville contacted me for an interview. Piedmont is my top choice. I’m afraid I may not get called back because I don’t have experience in a hospital.

@mnolasco To be completely honest with you I personally don’t think hospital experience as a tech, student nurse extern, etc is a big determinant towards a nurse residency position especially if you’re aiming for a med surg unit where the nursing shortage is very evident. Nursing school exposes us to hundreds of hours of hospital experience. Now if you’re striving for a super sought after unit like NICU for example then experience as a tech there or a senior practicum in the NICU is fairly important IMO. I think the hospitals are just now starting to begin contacting us for the interview process. I’ve only been contacted by piedmont so far. Looking at prior summer residency posts on the site, I think late February and throughout March is normal to start hearing back so I’m trying not to stress. Also if you can ask a professor or even a recruiter during a hiring event to review your resume they can give you good tips on highlighting your clinical experiences throughout nursing school if you didn’t have paid hospital experience. Good luck to you!

@mnolasco I don’t have experience in a hospital setting other than my clinical hours and Piedmont contacted me to set up a phone interview! I also am interested in women’s services and the NICU so fingers crossed I get at least one of them in Newnan!

@mnolasco I have no hospital experience other than nursing school clinicals. Anyone coming from out of state? I’m from Mississippi

I think I may add the Newnan location to my list. It's further than I wanted to drive, but it seems everyone from that location has heard something

So I’ve seriously considered like 7 of the piedmonts. But it’s gonna be a really long commute for me and as others have said after a night shift that’s gonna be a scary thought. Emory, wellstar, choa, Piedmont, and Eastside are all the ones I applied to. I was recently told that Eastside wasn’t hiring for the units I’m interested in so I decided not to go further in the process.

What units at Eastside aren't hiring? They didn't tell me this and I have an interview with them.

NICU and MB is what I was told. They may have been hiring but filled the positions with internal hires.

Hi all!! I am so glad to have found this thread. I have applied to both Northside and Piedmont, and have only heard back from Oncology at Northside. I have a year of L&D Extern experience so my top choice is L&D, but my application is still in “resume received”. I have been so anxious waiting so it’s good to see that it seems to be the norm! Best of luck to everyone!

That’s amazing that you were able to land a position as an L&D extern! How’s it going so far?? Do you like the unit?
