Summer 2019 Phillips School of Nursing at Mount Sinai Beth Israel

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone has applied, waiting, or has been accepted to Phillips School of Nursing Mount Sinai Beth Israel for the Summer 2019 semester. I saw other nursing pages for 2017 and 2018 but no ongoing active one for the 2019 semester. Just wanted to connect with some more people on this site regarding the program.

I applied for the Summer start, but just got accepted today into the Fall cohort! Does anyone know what month the program would end next year? Also has there been any info received on scholarships? Im deciding between Mount Sinai and Adelphi, but Adelphi’s more expensive

And you applied through NursingCAS? When I called in January they said they would open the app February 1 and that's when it appeared for me. I submitted it about a week ago, hoping I hear back soon but congratulations!

Yes I did! Not sure why you had that issue, but best of luck and thank you very much!

Also, is there anybody applying for the Fall start of the ABSN program?

I just submitted my application for the Fall ASBN program! I was confused on the NursingCas because I was not sure if this application was a rolling acceptance? Best of luck to you!

Yes its rolling. I applied to the Fall entry with the 2/1 deadline because that's all that was available on Nursing CAS. A week later I got my acceptance to the Summer start, which I can't make because I'm in Microbio and AP II until the end of May and was planning on taking Ethics during the Summer before the August start date.

I got an e-mail saying to fill out FAFSA but I've already done that. Hoping they give us the financial aid packages soon because the cost will definitely affect my choice of which school I'm going to.

So are they letting you start in the fall? Or do you still have a summer start date?

She said they would move me. I dont see why they woudn't take me for Fall I didn't even apply for the Summer start

Hi everyone,

For those who got accepted into the Fall 2019 ABSN program, I have some questions if anyone can help!

1) What were your stats and what did you focus on in your personal statement?

2) I took Public Health Law and Ethics at my university, does that count toward the Ethics requirement? I emailed Maria Gallo and she has not responded yet.

3) I have all A's and B's and one C in Chem I for my prerequisites, and a 3.3 overall undergrad gpa, but I got an F in Chemistry II which I don't even need for the program; however, I am still worried I will not be accepted due to having an F on my transcript. I have a lot of healthcare/medical experience with shadowing, interning, and research. Any thoughts?

If anyone knows specific info about the program, please share! Such as how the cohorts are, course load, etc.

Thank you so much for your help!

Answering your qs below

I think my pre-req GPA is a 3.9 or something, I'm still in in AP II and Microbio and havent taken Ethics yet. My undergrad GPA was 3.49 but was in the Humanities, so I doubt they cared about it.

I would continue to ask about your Ethics class. Just follow up to your original e-mail and maybe include the syllabus for your Ethics class if you can dig it up.

As per your personal statement, I would have people look at it. Focus on your passion within Nursing and your career goals. Also, give it to 1-2 people who know you well and can point out where you can make better transitions between paragraphs, use larger words, and generally make your writing as good as you can.

If you want to address your failing grade, you could probably address that in your personal statement or add another short essay explaining what happened or how youre more focused and mature now as a student. The only thing I would say about the F is that if its there because of academic dishonesty, you're probably going to really have to wow them with your statement or recommendations to be considered.

If you have strong recommendations from your work shadowing, interning, or doing research, I think that can also help.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I recently sent my deposit. I was wondering if y’all know when will we be able to access our emails or financial aid? I am really nervous regarding financial aid and scholarship. I wished that I could talk to someone from the previous cohort.

How are people submitting their deposit? Since I live nearby I thought about just dropping it off in person but thought that might be a little odd.

For those accepted did you just receive an email or did the status of your NursingCAS application change as well?
