  1. Answering your qs below I think my pre-req GPA is a 3.9 or something, I'm still in in AP II and Microbio and havent taken Ethics yet. My undergrad GPA was 3.49 but was in the Humanities, so I doubt they cared about it. I would continue to ask about your Ethics class. Just follow up to your original e-mail and maybe include the syllabus for your Ethics class if you can dig it up. As per your personal statement, I would have people look at it. Focus on your passion within Nursing and your career goals. Also, give it to 1-2 people who know you well and can point out where you can make better transitions between paragraphs, use larger words, and generally make your writing as good as you can. If you want to address your failing grade, you could probably address that in your personal statement or add another short essay explaining what happened or how youre more focused and mature now as a student. The only thing I would say about the F is that if its there because of academic dishonesty, you're probably going to really have to wow them with your statement or recommendations to be considered. If you have strong recommendations from your work shadowing, interning, or doing research, I think that can also help. Good luck!
  2. She said they would move me. I dont see why they woudn't take me for Fall I didn't even apply for the Summer start
  3. Yes its rolling. I applied to the Fall entry with the 2/1 deadline because that's all that was available on Nursing CAS. A week later I got my acceptance to the Summer start, which I can't make because I'm in Microbio and AP II until the end of May and was planning on taking Ethics during the Summer before the August start date. I got an e-mail saying to fill out FAFSA but I've already done that. Hoping they give us the financial aid packages soon because the cost will definitely affect my choice of which school I'm going to.
  4. Thanks so much that's super helpful! Can you speak to the support of faculty and admin during the MDE portion? Also just generally the culture of the MDE cohort year to year? I've been doing my post-bacc at Hunter and didn't really get to connect with students and I am definitely looking for more of a community in the program I choose. Additionally, how easy or difficult is it to find an RN position in NYC after the MDE? Are hospitals becoming familiar with the program and do they seem eager to hire Columbia's MDE grads? Thanks!
  5. Hi @eastwest & @The_salty_cat, following this convo as well! I think i maxed out on what Columbia could give me for the MDE (the 15k merit and also a ~28k need based). Still its a lot of money and I'm wondering if a MSN degree with no specialty is worth it? I think its important for us to note that MDE graduates ARE NOT able to go straight to a post-MSN certification program, which is something I asked during a webinar last week. Ultimately I want to go into a CNM specialty and I know that the ACNM and also every midwife I've asked has said that they dont think a DNP is necessary for Midwifery at all. I'm having a hard time deciding between Columbia and Mount Sinai (havent gotten a finaid award from them yet). Mount Sinai is an accelerated Bachelor's program but I'm not sure if it matters since the MSN from Columb is non-specialty and I would have to do another MSN to gain NP privileges. If there are any DNP students out there who are currently in the program (especially the Midwifery DNP) and have any insight-- please reply!
