Hello everyone! I was wondering has anyone been taking short (5 weeks) summer classes at GCC and how did it go? I can not decide what to take this summer: BIO 201, CHM 130, or BIO 205. I want to take one class for each of two summer semesters and I will be working full time. If anybody took any of these classes during summer, how many hours you spent studying, did you pass and what are you suggestions, which class to take? Is BIO 205 easier than BIO 201, or CHM 130 than BIO201?
Thanks!
Just FYI.......most nursing students are able to test out of Critical Reading. Try to test out before you take the class.Sassiebaz, I approached my degree much the same way as you. I did block 1 and block 2 at Maricopa Skill Center. I did prereqs for a year during the wait for the Skill Center and was finishing up BIO205 and BIO202 during block 1. Not easy, but doable.
That enabled me to easily jump into block 3 at Glendale with no wait. Some of you might want to try this strategy instead of waiting 2 or 3 semesters to get into block 1!
It's good to know Im not alone. Im going through the southwest skills center LPN program. As most of you know Algebra is a real kicker for me so if I do continue to my RN I will most likely NOT go through MCCD for it. I have found 2 programs(can you believe it) that do NOT require algebra as a pre-req. I know everyone tells me to keep trying but it seriously brings me to tears. In my opinion I am a fairly smart person. I excel in the science classes...but not ALg. I am so much more comfortable getting my LPN first and then decide what route to take.
I took my placement test for english and math at GCC. If I decide to go online trough Rio, do I have to take the placement test there too?
No. the placement test is good for all the community colleges. They can actually just go into the computer and locate your placement. I took mine at GCC north and Rio could access it when I registered there.
Ok, this may sound really stupid, but, I never took a class online. Can you tell me more about it? Do you study whenever you want or do you have to be online at certain time? Do you have assignements that you have to do each day? Can you work ahead? How many hours per day (week) you usually spend studying with a 8 week/16 week class?
My "final" thought is to take BIO 156 and MAT 092 online at Rio. MAT is 14 weeks and BIO is 8 weeks and they will everlap for a month or so.
Thank you for all your help, so glad I found you.

You work online at your own pace. You don't have to be online at certain times. I did BIO156 through Rio and recommend it. I did BIO201 online and hated it. I did BIO202 and BIO205 at Glendale. I don't know what MAT092 is like. The HCC classes are very simple online at Rio, so is medical terminology.

What was BIO156 like?? I am thinking of taking it this summer....Did you have alot of essay?
Hey Glina,I am starting my pre-nursing classes this summer at GCC too. I am hoping to take BIO 156 then BIO 201 (on wait list for this one). Perhaps I'll see you there!
Best of luck to you!

I am taking BIO 201 on Saturdays, in the fall semester. I hope to pass BIO 156 during the summer. I went to GCC this Monday at 10 AM, and they told me that BIO201 classes for summer semester are already taken. Who knows, maybe we will meet.
Good luck!
Glina-
If you're talking about summer semester II, Bio201 being full, and you really want to get in that class (to save yourself a semester) I may have a solution. Usually those classes have wait lists 'cause there's probably going to be somebody who drops out. YOu can either get on the wait list, or just go to the first class and let the teacher know that you want to take that class(provided there's not a wait list, you can't do this if there is). A lot of people drop out the first week or so and if you go to the classes the instructor will add you in once people have dropped out. HTH

Check into Gateway's LPN FastTrack. They *DO* offer a nighttime/weekend option with that program.
Warning: in order to start Spring 2008 (which is their next start date), you need to have your CNA license before the application date -- either June 30th or July 1st (something like that). You'd also need to take two classes totalling 4 credits, which you could take now through Rio. I understand the 3 credit one is incredibly easy, if not almost pointless.
