Starting the thread for those anxious applicants trying to get a read on this year's pool of candidates...
So who is willing to post what they've scored?
Here's mine:
A&P 1: A
A&P 2: B+
Eng 1: A
Eng 2: B+
Micro: ___
Psych: A
Stats: C- (blah!)
TEAS: 78
Not particularly found of the revision to the rubric.
So what are you holding???
I hope you all get in! I was just talking with a woman I know who taught in the nursing program at Suffolk and she mentioned to me that they don't weigh our previous degrees into their decision, nor do they weight any previous health care experience. That is strange to me. The fact that you are coming with a B.S. degree or a Masters should count for a lot!
When I went to the info seminar, they said they changed the whole process so the majority of the weight is on the TEAS because it is a standardized test. Professors vary in their teaching. Some professors may emphasize a certain subject more. Some may be unfair and seem to constantly throw curve balls resulting in an unfortunately low grade. So they said the TEAS would remedy that problem. Perhaps next year they might go back to the way they used to do things or even add an option for resume or something. I suppose playing along with this idea, favoring or taking into account someone who already has a degree may be seen as favoritism and unfair to someone who doesn't have them. meh
Hey everyone so I took the TEAS yesterday and did not do as well as I wanted. I received an overall grade of 63.3%. For reading I got a 63.8%, for science I got a 46.8% which really upset me but I mainly studied cells and reproduction and I still have to take A&PII, for English I got a 62.5% and for math I got a 84.4% which brought my total average to a 63.8%.I already took the following classes:
A&P 1- B+
English 101- B+
English 102- A
Statistics- B
Psyc- C
His 101- A
I applied for both Grant and Ammerman ‘s evening nursing program and I was wondering if anyone thinks I may have a chance. I am very upset about my score on the TEAS & I only took it one time so I will get 2 additional points for that .
According to the rubric I only have 38 points since I scored proficient. Does anyone know if the Grant/Ammerman night program is easier to get into? Also should I apply to the LPN or would they then maybe give me less of a chance for the RN program. =[
Abesse, You still have good chances. You did a lot of the prerequisites courses!
Btw: what book did you use in A&P 1 and Statistics?
For A&P1 I used the Pickin and Smith lab manual and my teacher said that we could use any A&P book that was within 10 years so I had borrowed one from my friend. And for statistics the book was online so we did all of the lessons there and we had a workbook to show all of our work. I took satistics a year ago with Anabelle Darini she was amazing. I don't have my statistics book anymore or else I would tell you the name sorry. When I look at the rubric it looks like I only have 38 points so I'm a little nervous if I don't get in for the spring I will definitely retake the TEAS after I complete A&P2 this fall.
Don't worry too much. I am sure your next exam will place you in advanced level because by the time you will take it, you will have done bio 130 and bio 132.
I just took the Ati test last week and got 81.3% overall (thanks to math and science). Now I have to start taking the prerequisites from this semester in SCCC.
SAT books are awesome for math and science (subjects here are more deeply concerned than nursing entrance books). If you need it, I can borrow you, I don't need them anymore.
I really hope I can place advanced next time and thank you so much for the offer my brother actually has a few SAT books that he recently purchased I had no idea they would be good for the TEAS, I will definitely start reading them! I feel like I will also def do better after completing A&P2 so hopefully between the SAT books, videos & another class I will score proficient next time =] which SAT book did you use so I can see if that's one of the books he has. Thanks!

Please look at my post on page 16 #205. I go into detail about how to calculate the mess of a rubric. You also might want to nibble on some brain food as it's quite lengthy. But to answer this question, I will copy and paste the relevant portion from my post. Refer to this link: SCCC Nursing Department A.S. Degree Admissions Rubric
"Relevant Coursework (4th box on the rubric online) adds 24 points.
So getting an A in A&P means you get to add a 4 to your score. C in Microbio gets you a 2. Convert and add any classes you took to your score. Max points here is 24.
Remember, these classes include any AP classes you took in HS that are 3 or better, any classes you CLEP out of, and other classes that transferred from other colleges. Just make sure it's on your record and they have the result. Two points will be deducted if you retake A&P 1 and/or A&P 2. This includes needing to withdraw for medical issues or failing the class. Also, A&P 1 & 2 AND Microbio expire in 10 years
For the last box, if you take any of these classes and got a C or better, you add 0.25 points to your score with a max of 1 point"
Note, if you refer back to my post I spoke to my professor who taught both classes, and she was able to speak to the chair of nursing. If you take Bio 272, it can be used in the place of Bio 244. You just have to request to have it waived. Both are Microbio, but apparently Bio 244 is geared more towards the healthcare field and 272 is if one is pursuing a degree in biology. Which wouldn't make sense, since there are plenty of people are pursue a degree in biology and go to med school. Perhaps I heard wrong.
