Suffolk County Community College 2017 Applicants

Published

Starting the thread for those anxious applicants trying to get a read on this year's pool of candidates...

So who is willing to post what they've scored?

Here's mine:

A&P 1: A

A&P 2: B+

Eng 1: A

Eng 2: B+

Micro: ___

Psych: A

Stats: C- (blah!)

TEAS: 78

Not particularly found of the revision to the rubric.

So what are you holding???

do you by any chance know if the evening program is any easier to get into? I applied for each campus but only scored 38 on the rubric so I am a little nervous =[

If I remember correctly from the information session, there are less seats in the evening programs so I would imagine that by default it's more competitive. However, since this program takes six semesters compared to the others that only take four, perhaps less people apply?

Does any one know if we are already a SCCC student applying for the nursing program do we have to send an application fee payment?

Hello, It is not necessary to do the Pre req.

If you can get an average over 78, you will have 20 extra points (that is equivalent to get 5 pre-req. with A). I did it like this just today.

I didn't do too good on the teas exam but I do have quite a few credits that would be considered the old prereqs hoping that helps me get in ;[

I applied for spring 18 as well, ammerman as first choice. I did ask the someone from the nursing department if it was easier or harder to get into the spring and she said it's about the same..less people apply and a lot less get accepted.

My grades are:

Ap1- B

Ap2- B

Eng 102- B+

Psy 101- B+

History- A

stats- A

Teas- 90% (English 83.3%, Math 96.9%, Science 83.3% and Reading 95.8%)

I believe I have about an 80 on the rubric.

unfortunately, having a bachelors won't give you any more points (I went for my bachelors in teaching), but it's just those pre reqs and the teas that count toward your overall rubric score.

Wishing all the best, seems like the wait is slowly killing us all. Quick question, are we talking about the LPN to RN program or just the straight nursing program?

I an talking about the straight RN program:)

I hope you all get in! I was just talking with a woman I know who taught in the nursing program at Suffolk and she mentioned to me that they don't weigh our previous degrees into their decision, nor do they weight any previous health care experience. That is strange to me. The fact that you are coming with a B.S. degree or a Masters should count for a lot! I hear it's about 75% TEAS score and the remainder is based off of the rubric points you get for the prerequisite courses.

I didn't do so well on the TEAS I only got a 66.3 :[ but I only took it once which I know is 2 points and I already took A&P1, psyc, English 101 & 102, history & statistics. I pray I get in but if not I am taking A&P2 this semester then I will retake the teas in December. I feel like I would have done so much better on the TEAS if I would have taken it after A&P2. :[

It's interesting to me that they don't consider any healthcare experience and there wasn't even an option to upload a resume on the application. If the program is seeking the most qualified candidates that will eventually complete the program and pass the NCLEX to make the school's passing rate as high as possible, you'd think they would want a well-rounded candidate that they know is going to succeed.
