Anyone who would like to share about their application in Saskatchewan?

Hi nursemich! Im also an IEN from the Philippines. Im not able to send PM so I send you this question thru posting. I read from other thread that you sent an application to CNO. I just want to ask you what was the assessment. Please give me an idea because I just sent mine last march. And I want to be assess for both RPN and RN. But they said they can't do both at the same time. So anyway were you ask to do a bridging course? How was the assessment?

So getting back to the thread I have an article from Feb-March 2009 Saskatchewan bulletin edition I can share to you maybe it could help.

The Capacity Building for Internationally Educated

Nurses Assessment (CBIA) project is a three year

project, funded by Health Canada that will run from

October 2007 to March 2010. It is designed to build

capacity within each of the participating jurisdictions

to conduct standardized assessments of

internationally educated nurses (IENs) using the

Substantially Equivalent Competency (SEC)

Assessment Model developed by Mount Royal

College and the College and Association of

Registered Nurses of Alberta.

Project partners include the Ministries of Health and

Advanced Education, regulatory bodies, selected

post-secondary nursing institutions, and

representatives from health authorities/regions from

each jurisdiction that are represented within the

Western and Northern Health Human Resources

Planning Forum which include British Columbia,

Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, and

Northwest Territories/Nunavut.

CBIA is a competency assessment that will help

identify what (if any) supplementary education an

IEN will require to enable them to meet the entry-topractice

registered nurse competencies. It is also a

means to assess and consider the prior learning of

IENs. Prior learning assessment and recognition

(PLAR) is a widely-acknowledged and valued

educational innovation. This linkage between

assessment service and delivery of appropriate

supplementary education will optimize the successful

integration of IENs into the workforce.

The provincial government has provided funding for

the implementation of the Substantially Equivalent

Competency (SEC) Assessment Model to run from

September 2008 through to June 2009. IENs who

meet the selection criteria established by the pilot

project will be referred by the SRNA to SIAST,

Wascana Campus, to have their competencies

assessed against entry to practice competencies

expected of RNs in Canada. An assessment may be

conducted in one, all, or any combination of the

areas of medical/surgical, pediatrics, obstetrics, and

mental health. The SEC assessment process includes

a diagnostic exam, critical thinking and nursing

judgment scenarios, and an OSCE. Dependent upon

results of the SEC assessment, an IEN may be

eligible for licensure or may require successful

completion of supplementary education prior to

being eligible for licensure.

Throughout the CBIA project, there has been

tremendous inter-jurisdictional collaboration.

Numerous working committees have been established

to oversee the formation of a consistent approach to

utilizing the SEC Assessment Model. In addition, a

formal evaluation process will be conducted. It is

hoped that the CBIA project will extend beyond the

pilot phase and will continue to work towards a pan-

Canadian approach to IEN assessment.

I already emailed SRNA and they will send me an application any day from now. But Im kinda having doubts of pursuing my application because of the SEC assessment that they started to implement last September 2008 expected to continue till June of 2009. So Lets see what will be Saskatchewan next bulletin. I hope this info will help.

Thank you for the information. I have received my application package from Ontario but I haven't returned my application yet because, base from other applicants in Ontario, it takes years for the assessment. I pursued my application in Saskatchewan instead because I thought there is no SEC and also because of the Provincial Nominee Program, which I think my immigration will be faster to be processed if ever I will be eligible for licensure.

BTW, I only downloaded the forms from SRNA. I did not request for the application package. It will take 3 -4 weeks before you received it. So better download it instead.

I also do not want to undergo SEC. Initially, I intend to go to Australia but my IELTS result was not enough for registration for Nurse so I'll try applying in Canada instead. But if the assessment outcome will require me to have SEC, I'll have second thoughts again on continuing my application.

anybody who knows if SRNA will require you to take IELTS again if ever the validity of IELTS lapsed by the time you get the eligibility for CRNE? I have read in a couple of threads that SRNA is taking more time (than they used to) to finally issue the eligibility for applicants because they were suddenly flooded by IEN applications.. does anybody know by chance if somebody has to repeat IELTS if its validity has expired already, and yet you haven't got the eligibility??

just wondering because i am about to send my application..

thanks!

English language test results must be sent to SRNA directly from the testing agency. Test scores are valid for two years. If your results expire during the application process, you may need to take another English test.http://www.srna.org/registration/IEN_instructions.php

Hope this answers your question.
